Mrs Caroline Wilson-Haffenden

Welcome back to Term 4.

We hope all families enjoyed a restful holiday break and had the opportunity to spend quality time together. It has been wonderful to welcome students and staff back as we begin what promises to be a busy and rewarding Term 4.

This final term of the year is always a special time in the life of St Mary's College. Across the coming weeks, there will be many opportunities for learning, celebration, reflection and connection as we come together as a College community. From classroom achievements and cocurricular activities to community events and special milestones, Term 4 provides many moments to celebrate the growth, talents and accomplishments of our students.

A significant milestone this term is the conclusion of formal classes for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. It is a very special time for our Year 12s, who this week will enjoy a range of celebrations recognising their time at St Mary's and the contribution they have made to College life.

This Friday 30 October, students and staff will gather to express our gratitude for the friendships, leadership and spirit they have brought to our College. The cherished Belling Out ceremony will provide a fitting opportunity to celebrate and farewell the Class of 2026 as they conclude their journey at St Mary's and prepare to embark on their next chapter.

Year 12 parents and carers are welcome to gather at the front of the College at 2.40pm for the Belling Out.

SchoolTV | Depression and Young People

As we move through this busy term, we also encourage families to make use of the wellbeing resources available through SchoolTV. The platform provides practical advice and expert guidance on a range of topics relating to student wellbeing and development. The latest report focuses on Depression and Young People and may be useful in supporting conversations around emotional wellbeing and recognising when to seek additional support.

“Depression is a serious mental health condition that can affect how children and young people think, feel, and engage with the world around them. While emotional ups and downs are a normal part of growing up, persistent changes in mood, behaviour, or social connections may signal something more concerning. Recognising the early warning signs, maintaining open communication, and providing a supportive environment are essential. With compassion, understanding, and early intervention, parents and caregivers can play a vital role in supporting a young person’s recovery and long-term wellbeing.”
