Year 5 Classroom

Last term, the Year 5 students captivated the audience with a performance showcasing their deep learning on Australian Federation. Through an engaging play, the Year 5’s took everyone on a journey back to 1901, recreating the historic conventions and pivotal figures, including Sir Henry Parkes and Edmund Barton, who helped unite six separate colonies into one nation. The performance expertly blended historical facts with creative costumes, and impressive theatrical energy, giving the whole school a memorable look at how modern Australia came to be. Congratulations to Year 5 for their hard work, teamwork, and brilliant stage presence!

Several Year 5 students shared reflections on how stepping into historical roles helped them understand the teamwork and determination behind Australia’s Federation, and expressed how much they enjoyed taking the stage.

Kathryn Thomas - Our last term assembly was about the Federation. We decided to do Federation because in history last term we learned all about the Federation, immigration, migrants and a lot more. We explained the Federation using a performance where we had Edmund Barton and Sir Henry Parks. We also had all the states explain how they were affected before and during the Federation time.

In our assembly, I was one of the two narrators and I enjoyed this part immensely because it was so much fun to explain what was happening and explain important information. I believe everyone else also enjoyed it and everyone had so much fun practising it.

Leo Connellan - Last term, our assembly was about the Federation of Australia. I played the role of Sir Henry Parkes, who was known as the “Father of Federation” and played a crucial role in Australia Federating. We spent 2 weeks practicing and everyone was really excited when the day came. Richard and I both made props including a beard, an Australian Constitution and we both dressed up. Everyone got to speak and we all had a lot of fun practicing and doing the assembly.

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives...

Our Year 3 assembly on Friday 11 September celebrated the lives of saints and the difference we can all make through our everyday actions.

The assembly connected with our Religion lessons about saints and discipleship. During the term, students explored how the saints lived out their faith through courage, kindness and service. For example, St Francis cared for creation, Mother Teresa showed compassion for the poor and lonely, St Oscar Romero spoke up against injustice, St Mary MacKillop created opportunities through education, and St Roch cared for the sick and vulnerable. They then reflected on how we can follow these examples at school, at home and in the wider community.

This learning also brought our Term 3 school value of Equity and Justice to life. Through the saints’ examples, we considered the importance of treating others fairly, recognising when someone needs extra support, including those who may feel left out and standing up for people in need. We were proud of the students for sharing their learning and reminding us that even small actions can make a meaningful difference!

Thank you to the families and special guests who joined us to celebrate and support our Year 3 students.

When we were learning about saints, one of my favourite things was when I got to make some slides with Tavi about a saint I learnt about in Spain. Everyone wrote about different saints, and we liked St Roch, St Francis of Assisi and Mary MacKillop. It was so much fun. Thank you Mrs Ries and Ms Fay for teaching us all of this! (Lulu)

In Religion, I liked learning more about the saints, especially St Roch and how he became a saint. I also liked learning about his miracles and how he healed sick people.” (Thomas)

I really enjoyed learning about five saints, their extraordinary lives and presenting our knowledge of them in class and at assembly. It was fun, exciting and unforgettable! (Charlotte)

School Spirit Sports

The St Roch's School Spirit Sports event will take place at Gardiner Park on Friday 6th November. We are asking for assistance in getting the marquees to the park by 10am. If you are able to help with transportation and/or set up of the marquees that would be fantastic. Please email Marjie King at  mking@srgleniris.catholic.edu.au if you are able to assist in this very important task.
