Year 10 Subject selection and SET plans for Year 11, 2027

Last week, parents and students received their web-preference instructions in selecting their subjects for Year 11. This is due by Friday 5 June.

SET Plan Interviews will take place on Friday 26 June (Term 2) and Monday 13 July (Term 3), (appointments will be available on both days, however, only one interview is permitted per student). These interviews provide an opportunity to discuss students’ future pathways and subject selections for Year 11 and 12. Both students and a parent/carer are required to attend. Parents can select which round of these interviews will suit them best and bookings occur via the Parent/Teacher booking system on the Parent Orbit App.   Further information to be emailed to parents closer to the time. For Boarding families, face-to-face interviews can be arranged earlier in the week, via Teams or can be booked for Round 2 at the start of Term 3.

Year 7-10 End of Semester Exam Block

As per the College calendar, the end of semester exam block for Years 7-10 will be held from Friday June 12 to Thursday June 18. During this time students will have exams scheduled across morning and afternoon sessions. It is expected that all students will be present during this important assessment period. If you are absent during exam block a medical certificate is required. Please note that once you return to school you will be expected to make up this assessment as soon as possible.

Please note some assessments will continue past the examination block into the end of the term and will include some Year 11 and 12 examinations.

More information about exam block scheduling will be released to students and parents in the coming weeks.

External Exam Block

The 2026 External Assessment (EA) Exam Block has been released by QCAA

QCAA external assessment timetable 2026

Good preparation starts now. Our advice to Year 12s at the moment (with Internal assessments remaining) is to focus on those things in their control: their sleep and diet, balance of study, work and extra-curriculars, as well as beginning to compile their study notes (particular for Maths and Science subjects). Every extra effort made in Internal Assessment now will also help to reduce the pressure on the Externals.

Preparation for Lessons and Upcoming Assessments

In the Middle Years, students are developing the skills needed to handle more complex learning tasks, but their working memory is still maturing. This means they can become overwhelmed when faced with too much information at once. To support them, we design lessons with clear structure, incorporate visual supports, and maintain consistent routines to reduce cognitive load and help students stay focused on key learning.

An important aspect of this support is ensuring students arrive at class well prepared. This includes having their Student Diary, notebooks organised in coloured folders, a fully stocked pencil case, and a charged laptop. These simple habits enable students to participate more effectively and maximise their learning time.

At home, promoting organisational strategies- such as using planners or breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps - can have a significant impact. These approaches help students feel more confident and organised, while also easing stress during busy assessment periods by distributing the workload over time.
