Dear parents and carers,

Recently, I had the pleasure of giving approximately 25 former students (mid to late 1950’s) a tour of CHPS. This group have regular catch ups but unfortunately missed our 150-year celebrations last year. What was evident during this nostalgic look back into the history of our school, was the fact that these ex-students talked about happy times, the learning they experienced, making friends, teachers who inspired, teachers who you stayed clear of, and how important CHPS was to the local community of Clifton Hill at that time.

As I reflect on the recent events I have attended such as the Yr 6 Camp, the Division Cross Country and the African Drumming workshops as well as what I see during my regular classroom visits, CHPS continues to take a leading role in educating children of Clifton Hill. Whilst our school has always had a strong presence in the past within our community, this presence continues today, and it will do so into the future. I wonder what stories the students of today will tell about CHPS in 50 years’ time.

School Council Annual General Meeting

School Council will hold our Annual General meeting at 7pm on Wednesday 20 August at the Senior Campus. Our 2024 Annual Report to the community can now be viewed on the school website.

Reporting Process

Teachers are currently busy assessing student learning achievements and writing student reports that celebrate student learning growth throughout Semester One. Parents receive a written report twice in a school year. A student's report provides a formal record at a point in time on their progress and achievement in their learning. The key purpose of reporting is to support student learning by providing information to students and parents about student achievement and progress, and to indicate areas for further development.

Families will note a change to the way schools (at the directive of the department) issue the Mathematics progression point. Previously, teachers reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

Please note that we have experienced some staffing changes and shortages in French this semester and as such there will be no French reports for Yr 3 and Yr 5 students.

Opportunities will be provided for parents and carers later this term to discuss the school report with teachers. These parent-teacher interviews promote communication between school and home and enable both the teacher and the parent and carer to work together toward their student’s learning and social wellbeing.

The objective of parent-teacher interviews is to:

involve the parents in the educational process
document the student’s progress for the parents
reflect on learning achievements and areas for improvement
give parents the opportunity to express feelings, questions and concerns
establish ongoing communication networks between the teacher, parents and student

Timeline for reports & parent/teacher interviews

Thursday 19th June – Bookings open at 9am for 3rd July Parent/Teacher Meetings
Tuesday 1st July – Reports are available on Compass for all students
Thursday 3rd July – Parent/Teacher Meetings (Pupil Free Day for all students)
