A Prayer for the First Week of Advent

Dear Jesus, 

You are the hope in our messy world. 

This Advent, help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what’s really important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas. Amen.

The first candle on the Advent wreath symbolises Hope. On the first Sunday of Advent, we not only look forward to the birth of Christ but also mark the beginning of a new liturgical season. This candle is purple, the primary colour of Advent, representing royalty and anticipation. Often called the “Prophecy Candle,” it reminds us of Isaiah’s prophecy and the promises God made in the Old Testament, all of which were fulfilled through the birth of Jesus.
