SOCIAL JUSTICE - Mission Month food and Christmas Hampers

Hello Everyone, we are the Social Justice Team.

Last Friday we had an extremely busy day taking action and being of service to others.

Firstly we went to the Vinnies food distribution centre in Hastings to pack the shelves with all the food you donated during Mission Month. We were so proud to represent all our families when we presented the food to the Vinnies group.

When we arrived, the shelves were mostly empty but by the time we had packed all your donations, every shelf was almost full. Thank you for this amazing effort.

The Vinnies group told us that this was enough food to see them through to after Christmas with food deliveries. It was a humbling experience for us to realise how many people in our community struggle just to have food to eat or share.

Next we were packing Christmas Hampers! We worked with the Social Justice Teams from St Mary’s and St Brendan’s. Father Shymon spoke to us about leadership, following in the footsteps of Jesus and the importance of taking action.

We had never seen so much Christmas food- we are so grateful for your wonderful donations, they were so appreciated.

We sorted the donations into similar groups like lollies, serviettes, bon-bons biscuits, drinks, Christmas puddings and mince pies etc. Then we filled big bags with a mixture of goodies.

We made 87 hampers to be distributed to people or families who would not otherwise have had treats to celebrate Christmas. This passes our previous record of 60 hampers.

None of this could have been possible without your generous donations. This is our Faith in action, it is being of service to others. Your kindness has made a difference to someone’s life.

We thank every one of you.
