We have a huge range of whole school and family events to promote Literacy and Numeracy at Westbreen Primary School!

Book Fair

We are very excited to let you know that our Westbreen Book Fair starts today!

The Book Fair will be held in the school library from 3:30–4:15pm each afternoon until

Tuesday 18 August. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to browse a fantastic range of books, discover new favourites and continue developing a love of reading.

We encourage families to pop into the library after school and explore the Book Fair together. It’s a great way to encourage reading, imagination and a lifelong love of books.

Thank you for supporting our school’s reading culture and encouraging your child to enjoy books at home.

Family Maths Challenge

Each week Ms Villani, our Numeracy Learning Specialist posts a Family Maths Challenge each week. All you need to do is scan the QR code and submit your answer to the question. It has been wonderful to see so many families getting involved!

Australian Primary Principals Day

Last Friday was Australian Primary Principals Day - it is a day to recognise the leadership, dedication and contributions of primary school principals and assistant principals. Mr Kenny and I were delighted to receive so many cards, poems and hand made gifts from our students. Thank you to all of our students and staff who organised such a lovely event!

🏀 Hooptime Success!

What a fantastic day our Grade 3/4 students had at Hooptime! We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship shown by all of our students as they represented Westbreen. A special congratulations to our Mixed Future Stars team, who had a fantastic day and came away with a well-deserved win! 🏆🏀

Across the day, our students demonstrated our Westbreen values by showing respect, resilience, cooperation, encouragement and good sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see students supporting their teammates, celebrating each other’s successes and showing such a positive attitude throughout the competition. A very big thank you to Justin Crotty for coaching our future stars and supporting them throughout the day. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the parents who generously volunteered their time to help with scoring. Your support made such a difference and helped make the day run smoothly.

We are so proud of all our students and the way they represented Team Westbreen. What a wonderful day of basketball, teamwork and school spirit! 💙🏀

2026 Parent / Carer Opinion Survey:

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. You will receive an email next week with the link and pin for you to complete the survey.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

Last year the survey results showed that communication was an area we could improve in and that families wanted more information about their child’s learning. In response, this year we have introduced progress reports completed in Term 1 and 3. We have also reviewed our learning management system and upgraded our school website. Your feedback really does make a difference!Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Reminder: Safe to School

A number of concerns have been raised about the traffic around our school. These include:

speeding in the school zone
parking across residents driveways
doing u-turns in West Street and blocking traffic flow
becoming impatient, beeping and making other motorists feel unsafe during pick up time

U-turns are prohibited in many school zones, particularly near crossings and intersections. Even where not explicitly banned, performing U-turns near schools can be risky due to reduced visibility and unpredictable pedestrian movement. Drivers should plan their routes to avoid the need for complex turning manoeuvres near school entrances.
