STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Grade 3/4 Rocket Launch

On Friday 30th May, the Grade 3s and 4s were lucky enough to launch bottle rockets with Steven Brown from Geelong High School. The students followed procedures to construct these rockets in the week prior, using large soft drink bottles, playdough, cardboard and electrical tape. Steven had an incredible launching pad on St Marys oval, where each rocket filled with water was pumped with gas and the students pulled the trigger to launch. The rockets soared high, fast, and covered incredible distances!

Here is what some of the students had to say/write about the experience:

“I think it was cool to watch them launch because all the water sprayed everywhere” - Leila W, 4DR

“Boom! The rocket was booming out of the air in a BLINK!” - Sadie, 3JS

“It was fun making the rockets with my friends and watching how far it could go” - Hugo, 4DR

“I went with Alice and Eleanor and we did a wicked theme, but I think we added a bit too much playdough.” - Charlotte, 3JS

“It was really fun and we would REALLY like to do it again” - Sonny and Edward, 4DR

“When it was in the air, it was going fast, but sadly, it plummeted down and got 46 metres.” - Bowen, 3JS

“Mine and Aaden’s rocket went 95m and it landed upright!” - Seb, 4DR

Thank you to Steven Brown from Geelong High for coordinating this experience for our Chilwell students!
