Reunion and Event Updates

Speakers and guests at the Kilvonian Konnections 'Legends' event

50 Year Reunion

Unfortunately, due to low RSVP numbers, the 50 Year Reunion for the Class of 1974 was cancelled.

Not to be deterred, a small group of past students gathered at the Goat House in Elsternwick to catch up and share memories and laughs. Thank you to Judy Allen (nee Southouse) for the photo. She said, “Although the frosty August evening ended up rather cold and wet, we still had a great catch up.”

L-R: Judy Allen (Southouse), Debbie Scally (Potter), Libby Ellis (Brewis), Debbie Alford (Barge), Sarina Delanis and Helen Stephens (Gow).

One Year Reunion

It was wonderful to welcome the Class of 2024 back to Kilvington for their One Year Reunion in Term 3. The VCE Study Centre was filled with former students and teachers reconnecting, sharing news and reflecting on their time at School. A heartfelt thank you to all those who attended.

Walsh Club Luncheon

On Friday 11 October, we welcomed guests to Kilvington Grammar for the second Walsh Club Luncheon of the year. This event was well attended by Kilvonians who left school 50 or more years ago, and offered guests the chance to reconnect over lunch and tour The HIVE, Kilvington’s new science, technology and library centre. This state-of-the-art building is a facility many could only have dreamed of during their time at Kilvington.

Our Prep students made a special appearance and gave each Walsh Club member a paper flower, thoughtfully prepared and including a lovely message of friendship.

5&10 Year Reunion

Our final reunion for the year bought together the Classes of 2019 and 2014 to celebrate their 5&10 Year milestones at the Sky Bar at Hotel Brighton. The evening was filled with joy, laughter and plenty of reminiscing as alumni reconnected and shared stories of their personal and professional journeys since leaving Kilvington.

We were delighted that past staff Les Clement and Terry Ymer were able to attend the reunion, adding a special touch to the event.

Kilvonian Konnections ‘Legends’ Event

On Thursday 24 October, the Multipurpose Room in the Kilvington Sport Centre was full of alumni as past students from across the decades gathered for the all-peer Kilvonians Konnections ‘Legends’ event.

It was wonderful to receive so much lovely feedback from those who attended.

"Thank you for organising such a wonderful gathering last night. It was a joy to reconnect with former students and staff members from years gone by. A thoroughly enjoyable evening!"

"What a delight it was to hear the choir’s beautiful rendition of the Kilvington school song. It instantly took me back to my School days and filled me with such fond memories."

Sister Act The Musical

By Nikki Taylor (Class of 1985)

On Sunday 17th November, Kilvonians attended a performance of Sister Act at the Regent Theatre.

A group of us went to Trinket Bar in Flinders Lane where members of the Kilvonian Alumni Choir and other Kilvonians met for a lovely and abundant pre-theatre meal before heading down to the theatre.

The show was full of colour, sparkle and fabulous singing with the Sunday evening star, Gabriyel Thomas as Delores Van Cartier a standout.  Genevieve Lemon as Mother Superior, Rhonda Burchmore as Sister Mary Lazarus and Sophie Montague as Sister Mary Robert led a fabulous supporting cast with an all singing, all dancing, all sparkling show.

All Kilvonians who attended had a great time and are looking forward to the next production.

Kilvonian Alumni Choir

By Ellie Pietsch (Class of 1999)

A small but mighty group of alumni launched the Kilvonian Alumni Choir this year, off the back of the centenary celebrations in 2023. Throughout the year, we have sung at the Concerto Concert at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, the Annual Concert, the Kilvonian Konnections all-peer ‘Legends’ event at Kilvington and at a special soiree for friends and family in the Patsy Venn Music Centre.

Comprising Kilvonians from 1960s through to the 2020s, we have sung a variety of modern and choral music and become quite a tight knit crew. Our skills have largely improved thanks to the expert conducting of Mr David Ashton-Smith OAM and Kay Cai as our piano accompanist.

Here’s a song we’ve created (with the help of Chat GPT) that captures how we feel about returning to School and the joy that music brings us each week.

On a Monday night, we gather near,

With David Ashton Smith OAM guiding us here,

Kay Cai at the keys, our hearts intertwine,

In the Kilvonian Alumni Choir, our spirits align.

Oh, Kilvonian Alumni Choir, sing it loud,

Nostalgic echoes, we’re a joyful crowd,

Creating lush chords, a rewarding embrace,

In this choir, we’ve found our place.

Happy memories return, as we sing along,

Reconnecting with friends, where we all belong,

Fun and joy of music, a blessing we share,

In Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, we breathe in the air.

Revitalizing moments, together we shine,

Singing with ‘old girls’, it’s simply divine,

With laughter and chats, we weave every note,

In the heart of Kilvonians, our passions float.

So here’s to the memories, the songs yet to be,

Rejoicing in harmony, we’re truly free,

With David's wise words and melodies to share,

In the Kilvonian spirit, we’re forever aware.

For those interested in joining, we’re a non-audition, casual choir for former students and staff of all abilities (including men). We rehearse during school term on a Monday night in the music house, now called the Patsy Venn Centre. Find out more about joining the Kilvonian Alumni Choir in 2025 here
