🎶 Performing Arts – Foundation & Level 1

This week in Performing Arts, our Foundation and Level 1 students celebrated their acting achievements by watching their completed productions — Foundation’s Three Little Pigs and Level 1’s Voices on the Farm.

In both plays, students worked hard to bring their characters to life by showing different emotions through their facial expressions, body movements and acting choices throughout each scene. Our Level 1 students also had the opportunity to explore emotions through dance and movement, adding another exciting element to their farm production. 🐷🐑🐔🐴💃

After viewing their amazing productions, students reflected on their performances and thought about how they used their voices, movements, faces and character emotions to communicate with an audience. They also reflected on their confidence, creativity, listening skills and ability to work as part of a group, recognising the important role that teamwork plays in creating a successful performance.

Students also considered what it means to be a respectful audience member — listening carefully, watching the performers and celebrating the achievements of others. It was wonderful to see students proudly recognise their own growth and the contributions of their classmates. 🌟🥁💃

All students should be incredibly proud of their achievements this Term. I feel very privileged to have watched not only their acting skills develop, but also to see their confidence, creativity and willingness to express themselves grow and blossom. It has been wonderful to see students take risks, support one another and become increasingly confident performers. 🌟

Junior Library

Our Prep and  Level 1 students enjoying interactive Auslan Storytime sessions this week with Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Eric Carle. Building on their learning from Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, students confidently signed the repetitive text throughout the story while practicing known & learning new Auslan vocabulary for a variety of zoo animals.

As each page was read, students signed the names of the animals and joined in with the repeated question, "What do you hear?" This engaging story provided a wonderful opportunity to reinforce Auslan vocabulary, develop sentence fluency and build confidence using signs in a meaningful and enjoyable context. Students were incredibly proud of their ability to sign along with the story and enthusiastically participated from beginning to end.

Auslan

This week in Auslan, our Years 3–6 students focused on family signs and had lots of opportunities to practise and build their Auslan communication skills through a variety of activities. Students revised and extended their numbers from 0–100, with some challenging themselves to sign numbers up to 1,000. They also practised the Auslan alphabet and fingerspelling words, as well as revising and using family vocabulary.

Students took part in conversation practice, asking and answering questions about their friends’ families and using Auslan sentences to share information. Through games, partner activities and conversations, students were able to practise their signing, fingerspelling, number skills and Auslan sentence structure while communicating with their classmates. ✨

It’s been a wonderful term in Performing Arts for all the Grades from 2 to 6!!

The 5/6 Production of the Wizard of Oz of course was the big year highlight and took up all the energy for Term 3 for the senior school. They have all loved watching back their performance on the professional film, as well as the rest of the students in other year levels. 

The 5&6’s continue with some drama improv work in this latter half of the term. 

The Grade 2’s and 3&4’s have also completed fabulous drama work. The 3/4s drama role play script performance to their classes were fantastic. I can already see some future production stars in the making! Each student did a wonderful job and it was amazing to see such fabulous group work during rehearsals. 

The Grade 2’s have also started to hone their dramatic performance skills. We’ve had so much fun with various drama games, with doing charades and acting our professions and emotions these past few weeks.

Hope everyone enjoys their spring holiday break and will see all the students back next term, which will be massive and jam-packed with LOTS music and singing !!
