Hello from Food Science

What a wonderful start to the year for our Year 6 students as they returned to the Food Science room for their final year in the program.
Each term, our Food Science program welcomes a new group of enthusiastic students eager to experience the joys of preparing, cooking, and tasting delicious food. The Year 6 students began the term by revisiting important kitchen practices, including safety procedures, hand hygiene, and classroom expectations. We also discussed the enjoyment of cooking and the importance of understanding how to nourish our bodies. Throughout the term, students participated in discussions about preparing simple, nutritious meals suitable for lunchboxes and afternoon snacks.
Students then had the opportunity to put their learning into practice in the kitchen. We began by making honey joy breakfast cups, discovering that healthy and tasty snacks can be quick and easy to prepare with just a few ingredients.
Food Science focuses on developing practical skills in a fun and engaging environment. Over the term, students have chopped, mixed, kneaded, and baked their way through a range of recipes including scones, chocolate truffles, veggie quesadillas, mini pizzas, and chocolate braids.
Staff members are always very happy to assist with tasting any leftovers!
It is particularly rewarding to hear that many students have taken their new skills home and prepared meals for their families.
Well done to our Year 6 students—we look forward to hearing how your culinary skills continue to develop in high school.
