Principal's Report

Payment Cut off for activities, incursions and excursions
Once again, I find myself in the situation of saying ‘NO’ to parents when they request to make a payment after an event has closed off on QKR. It is certainly not pleasant for myself or the leadership team to refuse a child to attend, but allowing late attendees causes extra work specifically on the office staff, leads to inaccurate lists and the chance of errors of missed medications and staffing ratio inaccuracy. For your reference this is our process:
- The office will set up all bookings on QKR post on Compass to parents to advise it has opened on QKR with 4 weeks’ notice for the parents to pay
- Teachers to send reminders of the events and payment in their weekly emails
- The office will put a post on Compass 1 week out from cut off on QKR
- The office will send a direct SMS 5 days out to both parents
- The office will send an email 4 days out to the teachers to remind the children that haven’t paid or given permission.
- The office will send a direct SMS 2 days out to both parents for students that have not paid
- The event will close off QKR at 4pm on the scheduled date.
The day after the closing (which is a week before your excursion/incursion) the office will supply class teachers with a list of students not attending.
Class teachers then make necessary lists for attendees and non attendees and first aid lists are actioned. DET risk assessments are submitted and staffing ratios are confirmed.
I feel we have a very thorough process that is clear and regular. But if you have any suggestions for improvement I welcome your feedback to this process. I will not tolerate anyone speaking disrespectfully or threatening any member of staff when communicating with us either in a face to face situation, via phone or via email. All matters should be discussed in a respectful manner.
Athletics Day
The weather was on our side this year, in fact a little warmer than predicted! What a wonderful day at our annual 3-6 Athletics Carnival. A huge thank you to Mr Coburn for all the organising and bookings that go into a day like this. Another thank you to the EMC Leaders in Sport students and Mr Riggs for their help and to all staff for making this event a success.
Mini Fete
Our Mini Fete is just over 1 week away! The kids are super excited, and I am certainly starting to gear up ready for a HUGE afternoon. Many of the classes are starting to make their posters advertising their stall. I hope as many families as possible will be able to join us for our biggest fundraising event of the year! Need a little encouragement to come along…
Surely you would love to throw a wet sponge at Mr Jellie’s face! How about trying to throw a toilet roll into the golden toilet! Try beating Mr Coburn at slam dunk at the basketball ring! Can you bowl Mr B’s head off in the bowling challenge!
There are so many donated prizes to be won, we want everyone to walk away with a load full of goodies. Bring your shopping bag and stock up on books, games, second hand uniform or even an item or two from the grocery stall.
Remember its best to jump onto QKR right now and avoid the queue at the fete to get your tokens. There is absolutely NO CASH at all on fete day – all stalls accept tokens only. We really want everyone to pre-purchase their tokens so they can enjoy the full 2 hours of the fete playing the games and shopping at the stalls.
End of term reminders
Term 1 concludes at 2.30pm on Thursday 2nd April. We will have our final assembly at 2.00pm on this day. Also, parents and grandparents are welcome to join us for the Easter Hat Parade at 9am on this day in the large stadium. Remember to start getting creative and make your hat ready for the parade.
Have a great fortnight,
Mrs Pepper
