Junior School Term 4

Integrated Curriculum

This term’s topic is media arts and how we can use media arts to share and express our ideas.

Literacy

We will be looking at images and how they can convey messages. We are going to be writing sentences and identifying sentence components.

Numeracy

We will be looking at measurement, specifically volume and capacity, as well as revising all we have learned about numbers. For extension we will be looking at how partitioning numbers can help with number fluency.

Wellbeing

We will continue with our RRRR and Kimochi’s programs on identifying and expressing our feelings, and using social skills to understand the feelings of others.

This term will be the long awaited Barn Dance and Dinner (for foundation students) and School Sleepover (for Years 1 & 2). This will be held on Friday 13th November.

There will be quite a few days where we will be conducting orientation sessions for our 2027 Foundation students, which will offer our class opportunities to be leaders and role models.

News Sharing will continue with the topics outlined in compass.

Grade 1/2/3 News

Literacy

Students will begin the term exploring informative texts, through exploring the picture story book, Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover. They will write information reports about the robots they are designing in Media Arts. Students will then transition to persuasive texts, learning to express opinions, develop convincing arguments and use persuasive language. Through studying The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and The Boy and the Elephant, students will explore different perspectives and authorial choices before writing scripts for advertisements designed to persuade an audience to purchase their robots.

Numeracy

Students will begin the term by exploring repeated addition and multiplicative thinking, developing their understanding of equal groups, multiplication strategies, and mathematical relationships. They will then investigate fractions, recognising and representing parts of a whole, before exploring measurement, with a focus on capacity and volume. To conclude the term, students will explore chance, investigating the likelihood of everyday events and using probability language to describe and compare outcomes.

Wellbeing

Students will continue participating in the RRRR and Kimochis curriculum, where they will develop their social and emotional skills through exploration in discussions, activities, and practical scenarios.

Inquiry- Media Arts

In Media Arts, students will investigate how different forms of media communicate ideas and influence audiences. They will develop their understanding of visual language, camera techniques, sound, storytelling, and audience, while examining how persuasive media can be used to communicate a message.

Building in their initial robot designs, names, and company ideas, students will work collaboratively to create an advertisement that promotes and sells their robot. They will apply their developing media skills to plan, produce, and share a final advertisement that engages a target audience and communicate their robot's unique features and purpose.

Grade 4/5/6

Integrated Curriculum

We're exploring how the media influence it's audience through advertisements. In particular, we'll look at misinformation and how this can be used to persuade. Students will create their own campaign after analysing current media issues.

Literacy

In Literacy we will focus on the class texts Storm Boy and Leo and Ralph. Through these, students will explore information reports and narrative text structures. They will also listen to podcasts and explore note taking skills which then gets transferred to succinct sentences and paragraphs.

Numeracy

In Numeracy students will continue to progress and consolidate place value understanding as well as recapping a number of curriculum areas including:

Fractions, capacity, measurement, shapes (nets).

Wellbeing

The 4/5/6 class will continue to work through our Kimochi curriculum and explore the RRRR curriculum (Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships).

School Concert

Thank you to everyone in our school community who attended the school concert. your support meant the world to our students who worked so hard to sing and dance to the best of their ability in the previous months with Miss Hood. Well done to the 4/5/6 students who MC'd the night and spoke so respectfully and confidentally to the crowd. What a wonderful time it was and we can't wait until the next one!
