Literacy
In Literacy, our Preps have been learning to recognise and read the sounds and letters k, e, r, and u. They have been practising blending these sounds to read and spell words such as mud, net, rip, kid, met, gut, kip, rag, sum, kin, pen, and rot. They have also been developing their handwriting skills by practising correct letter formation for both upper- and lower-case letters, including k, e, r, s, and a. In addition, students have been learning and practising important high-frequency words (tricky words), including my, are, and was, to help build fluency and confidence in their reading and writing.
The grade 1/2 students have been learning to recognise and read a range of letter patterns that make the long ‘ee’ sound, including ‘ea’, ‘e_e’, ‘ee’, ‘ie’, and ‘y ’. They have been practising blending these sounds to read and spell words such as meat, beanie, stampede, leapfrog, sunscreen, spy, shy, fly, my, and cry. Students have also been developing their independence when reading and spelling words by applying their knowledge of different sounds, including ee, ea, ie, and e_e, as well as recognising and reading compound words.
It has been fantastic to see families supporting reading practice at home. A reminder that along with take-home readers, regular practice of tricky words is just as important for helping students become confident readers.
Maths
In Maths this fortnight, students have been exploring repeating patterns and developing their understanding of different pattern structures. They have learnt to find and describe a range of patterns, including AB, ABC, AABB, AAB, and ABB patterns, and have discussed what makes each pattern unique. our P-2's have practised copying, creating, and continuing patterns using colours and a variety of different structures. They have also been challenged to explain their thinking by justifying their patterns, describing both the structure of the pattern and what part is repeating. Well done junior room.
Art
We are exploring the concept of 'Self' this term and students have been working through activities to discover what makes them unique. We have created a display of all the students in our school and displayed it on the back of the Art Room door for everyone to see and feel a sense of belonging.
