Art Corner

Something I stumbled upon recently was an interviewer in the UK who asks people who are visiting galleries “if you could own any piece of art, what would it be and why?” – such a good question! I’ve been thinking and trying to decide but until then, I asked our staff the same question and will bring you their answers each edition!

Caroline:I love nature photography. Don't have a particular artist that I follow. I love it because I find it relaxing and inspiring to think that there are still such magical, untouched places on this earth that is so fast paced and consumer orientated. I also love most paintings by Monet, but particularly the Water Lilies series. It brings back so many special memories for me of my time in France, visiting Giverny and my favourite gallery of all time, Musee de L'Orangerie.

Miss Rowland: The Ballet Class by Edgar Degas. I love how Degas uses the oil paint to create these beautiful soft colours and movement which seems so natural. I saw a Degas exhibition at NGV as a kid and have had a poster of this painting on my wall ever since.
