Student Safety

One of my greatest joys at school is being on gate duty before and after school. I love seeing families reuniting at the end of the day, children showing independence riding, walking or scooting home and the very sweet goodbye rituals many families have in the mornings.
Recently though, traffic and driving habits have been becoming a little concerning.
Can I take a moment to remind you to please follow the signage on Burgess street -particularly staying with your car (morning and afternoon) in the Kiss and Drop zone and the no U-turn signs at either end of the median strip. Turning at the Auburn High carpark is particularly dangerous near the pedestrian crossing and it is very narrow (I have seen a few very Austin Powers style 15 point turns this term).
We have also noticed an increase in children getting into and out of cars while in traffic. This is unsafe, delays traffic, and doesn’t support children in developing safe road habits for when they begin travelling more independently.
Thank you to all the children, parents and pets who give the teachers on duty and the crossing guard a cheery greeting, it really brings a smile to our day!
