News from Year 5/6

Year 5 Future Stars Day – Mount Lilydale Mercy College
All Year 5 students will be attending the Future Stars Day at Mount Lilydale Mercy College next Monday 25th May. During the day, students will participate in a range of activities and work collaboratively with students from St Joseph’s School and other local primary schools.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience a taste of secondary school life and become familiar with the college environment, particularly for those who may choose to attend Mount Lilydale Mercy College in the future! Thank you to all parents who have given permission on nForma.
5/6 Transition Session to UYSC
Our Year 5/6 students will be attending another transition session at Upper Yarra Secondary College. This session is for all students, regardless of which secondary school they will be attending in 2027.
Throughout the morning, students will participate in two different classes and enjoy the opportunity to further experience secondary school life. Morning tea will also be provided. We had a fantastic time during our previous visit last term and are looking forward to another great day! Please see nForma for permission and more details.
Literacy - Black Cockatoo
In Black Cockatoo, students followed the story of Mia and her friends as they uncovered important truths about a rare black cockatoo connected to their community’s history. Through Mia’s experiences, the novel explores themes of friendship, identity, culture and reconciliation, while encouraging readers to think about the importance of respect, empathy and listening to First Nations perspectives. The story sparked thoughtful class discussions about Australia’s history, fairness and how young people can make a positive difference in their communities.
