News from One/Two

Another week done! 

With the cold weather well and truly here, it is now becoming lost jumper season! Please check that your child's jumper has their name on it, as I already have had quite a few show up in the room that no one is claiming! 

F/1/2 Phototrail 

Last week we had the best time at the F/1/2 phototrail at Maroondah Dam! We started off seeing some kangaroos and then had a quick snack break before heading over to do tabloid sports!  We then split into some groups to complete the phototrail.  

English 

This week we began a new class book studies on The Most Magnificent Thing. This book is all about trying new things and retrying as we learn from our mistakes. We have been practicing writing sentences using precise and vague words, which help improve our sentences. We have also developed on existing sentences using before and after. 

One of the recent spelling lessons we learnt is on ‘ea’ words. We discovered that ‘ea’ can be read and spelled in words in three different ways! ‘ea’ makes the long /e/ sound as in meat, seat and eat. ‘ea’ makes the long /a/ sound as in break, steak and great. But ‘ea’ can also make the short /e/ sound as in head, read and bread. 

Handwriting 

This week, we had a bit of fun with our handwriting, copying a page out of our favorite book, which we then continued on in our own imaginative way.  

Maths 

This week, we have been learning about informal units of measurement. We have used a variety of materials to measure things in the classroom and outside. We even measured how tall our class was in leaves which was over 200 leaves!
