Religion

In RE, we just finished learning about the Eucharist and the different parts of the Mass - The Introduction, The Liturgy of the Word, The Liturgy of the Eucharist and the Conclusion. The children made posters using words and symbols to show what they know about the Eucharist. This week, we commenced learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will tie this in with Reconciliation Week next week.

Writing

We have been learning about the structure of a narrative - and focusing on adding description using adjectives and adverbs as we write different paragraphs.

Here is an introductory paragraph from Blake:

It all began 10 days ago, when our tribe went to war in the Pacific Ocean. They quickly hopped on the top of their battle ship and jumped off. The strongest was on my ship and swung his chain at Liam and went overboard. Then River went for Charlie and Jordan went for Liam.

"So, let's dance," exclaimed River and Jordan, emerging from the water. And as soon as their heads came out, they all went overboard.

An Introductory paragraph from River:

Peter woke up. "Where am I? WOW - a dinosaur planet. No. I have to be dreaming." Peter woke up. He was in his bed.

The next day, Peter's parents woke him up.

"Pack your bags. We're going to space."

They got in the car. Driving in the car took a long time. Eventually, they got there. Peter and his mum gamely went into the spaceship. The spaceship started. Five, four, three, two, one, blast off.

"Bep, bep, bep!"

"What's happening?" said Peter.

"I don't know."

Boom! The spaceship blew up!

An problem paragraph from Sophie:

She woke up on her top bunk, and she wasn't allowed on the top bunk. She climbed down, went to her door, but it was locked. She felt quite scared and worried, but with a feeling of braveness she leapt out the window. But there were big fences around that area. The reason she leapt out is for berries as food. She got back inside to turn on the light.

A problem paragraph from Mila:

The next morning George woke up in the middle of the ocean next to the small island. George swam over but got stuck in a rock. He pulled and pulled until it was out, but there were crashing waves coming. George felt really hungry, worried, cold, scared and confused but still couldn't get out of the rocks. Frustrated, George had to find a way out so he pulled and pulled again and it worked. He swam to the island. Still hungry, he looked for food, water and shelter.

A problem paragraph from Bella:

Billy was scared and tried to scream, but every time he opened his mouth, sea water rushed in. His heart was beating and his head was pounding. Thousands of thoughts and panic rushed through his head, "What if I drown? What if I die?" Billy's arms and legs were super tired from all that kicking and splashing. He could not even feel them anymore.

A problem paragraph from Ivy:

My jaw dropped. So did Chloe's. I was awestruck that mum had left us hee. And not to mention that the supplies would not last a week. I walked over to the window and just stood there for a while. I could see all the kids walking to school, including my best friend, Ruby. I started screaming her name but she couldn't hear me.

"What will we do, Sophie?" Chloe asked in a worried voice. I was so enraged that I picked up the box and threw it at the window so hard it smashed! Emma and Chloe screamed. I decided we would jump.

An Action paragraph from Xavier:

I will get a job for lots of money. Mike decided to get the next job in the newspaper. The next day it happened! While looking through the newspaper he saw it! 'Help wanted at Freddy Fuzzbear Pizza Place'. That's it. I'm signing up. Five nights for $ 10 000 000! Wait, what is the thing I have to do? It says night guard.

Maths

This week, we concluded our unit on length and perimeter. Students gained many skills using scaled instruments (rulers, tape measures and trundle wheels) to measure and compare a variety of objects and distances. We were blessed with some beautiful sunshine for an outdoor measuring session using trundle wheels.

Students have also been working hard on improving the automaticity of maths facts, including times tables. Thank you to the parents who are supporting their children to complete their daily maths homework. The results are beginning to show!
