Student Voice &

Positive Environment

At Wyndham Central College, we believe that every student has the power to make a difference. Their voice matters, and we are committed to providing opportunities for them to take ownership of their learning, school experience, and their future. This is what we mean by Student Voice and Agency — the idea that students, should be active participants in the decisions that affect their education and their environment. There are many opportunities to do this whether it be as a school captain or vice captain, SRC representative, house captain, music captain, program leaders or cultural leaders, or simply through providing feedback in our class PIVOT surveys on teaching and learning in the classroom, or the annual Attitude to School Survey conducted in term 2. We are currently going through the process to elect many of the student leaders for 2025, however, we do have our School captains and vice captains for 2025. Congratulations Tala Clarete and Alice Di for being elected as our school captains for 2025, and Nicole Sarmiento and Liam Power as vice captains. It seems like not long ago they were just starting at Wyndham Central College. The four leaders thought it was important to introduce themselves to the wider school community.

Dear Wyndham Central College Community,

I'm Tala Clarete, and I'm honoured to step into the role of your School Captain for 2025 alongside our other captains-  Nicole, Alice, and Liam. I have two goals that are simple:

(1)  To help create a school where everyone feels valued and empowered to achieve their best.

(2) At  Wyndham Central, we are guided by three core values

  • Respect - This goes beyond basic manners. It's about creating a community where we value each other, our staff, and our campus. When we show respect, we build the trust that makes our school strong.
  • Cooperation - Success comes from working together. Whether it's in class, on the sports field, or in our clubs, we achieve more when we support each other and move forward as one.
  • Excellence- It drives us to pursue our best, in both our studies and personal growth. For the longest time, I believed that students like me had to go to school to learn content, do well enough to go to university and get a job. The more I mature, however, I realize that the purpose of education is to understand the fruition of hard work. One may fall back many times, but I believe the students here have the strength to get up and try again until they have reached their desired goals. THAT is excellence.

My second goal is to reinforce and remind students of these three core values, and hopefully help those values live on, even after highschool.

Enough about goals — you’re probably wondering what I can do for you. I want to be a leader you can approach with ease. No matter who you are, let me be a safe space for you to share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Together, let’s make this year one of growth, connection, and achievement. I want to make you proud to be part of this community. To be able to say with pride that you go to Wyndham Central College. To help you wear the school uniform with utmost confidence, knowing that you are part of something bigger, something that values and supports every individual.

Wyndham Central College, I promise to do my very best in being your School Captain for the school year 2025. As Aristotle once said, “The ultimate goal of human life is to achieve excellence.” Let’s strive for that together, creating a year we can all look back on with pride, accomplishment, and a sense of growth.

Looking forward to working with all of you.

Hello Wyndham Central College! My name is Alice, and I will be your 2025 School Captain. First and foremost, I would like to thank my peers and teachers for the trust and confidence you’ve placed in me. To my fellow students who cast their votes for me, thank you for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity to represent you. To the teachers and staff, thank you for your support and guidance. I look forward to working closely with you to make our school community even stronger. I promise to do my best to lead with integrity, kindness, and enthusiasm. I hope to make our school a place where every voice is heard and where we all support one another to achieve our goals. If there is one thing I want to achieve in this coming year, I want to leave a lasting example on you all. My goal is to have any young student with the highest of dreams to be able to aim for the stars, and land even further. I want you to be able to see that if you can dream it, you can achieve it. Our differences are what make us unique and give us a power to be able to get ahead in life. Anyone can do anything; our only limit is our imagination. We decide how large to dream and we decide how to take those dreams and turn them into a reality. There is a quote I used in my campaign speech, and it encapsulates what leadership means to me. “Leadership is action, not position.” Being leader means much more than just the title or a badge. It embodies the idea of being a role model, a friend, and an inspiration for my peers to chase. So, in this year as a team, the fellow school captains and I will dedicate ourselves to this school and ensure that we will leave a lasting impression. As School Captain, I will strive to guide every single one of you in this school to success, continuing to set a good example to you all.

Hello to the WCC community, I am one of the 2025 school vice-captains, Nicole Ivy Sarmiento! Stepping into this role feels as though it has come to a full circle; having stepped out of my comfort zone upon entering secondary school, to then departing Wyndham Central by once again stepping out of my comfort zone to take on the responsibilities of a college vice-captain. I am so grateful to have been selected to lead the school alongside Tala, Alice and Liam. To know that I have the trust and support of my peers in undertaking this role means a great amount, and I am excited to share my potential with everyone. It is a duty of mine to ensure that our community always fulfills our values of respect, cooperation and excellence, by displaying that as a school leader. I promise to lead with integrity, passion, and commitment to representing each and every one of you. I will do so by encouraging school spirit, advocating for your ideas, and ensuring that everyone feels valued. We will continue to build on our inclusive and incredibly positive environment of ours. Thank you for this opportunity!

Good day everyone. The name’s Liam, and I am proud to be a Wyndham Central College Vice Captain for 2025. It didn’t feel like half a decade ago when I started my journey through high school, and now it is upon me to be a major figure within the school community.

Being Vice Captain isn’t just about the teal and gold badge—or flexing—it’s about action. My goal is to improve the school in ways that matter to you. Whether it’s more student-led initiatives, engaging classes, a stronger school community, or making WCC the place to be between 9 and 3, I’m here to help make it happen.

A strong WCC community starts with involvement, and I know plenty of you have ideas on how we can make our school a better place. My vision is to turn those ideas into reality. But first, they need to reach me. I don’t bite, and my idea-pad is always open. If you have a suggestion, I’ll do my part to get it to the right people and push for action.

However, an idea is only as good as the action behind it. That’s where I’m most passionate about leading. A strong school spirit, real community, and sense of belonging come when students feel heard and valued. When we create opportunities together—house events, social activities, special days—we’re not just making school more exciting, we’re shaping an environment where we all thrive.

A strong school spirit starts with involvement, and the other 3 captains and I want to make sure anyone with an idea can project that. I’m always ears with my little idea-pad, always ready to back initiatives with my role, and to work alongside the school to create new opportunities for all of us. If you see me with my blazer and train badge, feel free to come over and chat, whether it’s to suggest an idea, seek more info about what we are doing, or just to chat. I’m not the best at article writing, but I am great at listening and advocating.

Let’s make 2025 the best year Wyndham Central College has ever had.

As we move forward, we’re committed to continuing to empower students to lead and contribute to our school’s growth. We believe that when students have a voice and the agency to act, the entire school benefits.
