Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report
Welcome back to a new school year at Wyndham Central College. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break and are excited to kick off the new school year with enthusiasm and dedication.
Our goal in 2025 is to prioritise the wellbeing of our students, staff, and community. We are developing attendance improvement plans and processes and are in the process of building a new Middle Years Sub-school office with increased staffing and resources to support students in their day-to-day needs. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are excited to welcome all of our new and returning students, as well as our dedicated teachers and staff members. We would like to congratulate Mr Ewan Slater who successfully applied for a permanent Leading Teacher position as a Year 8 Leader!
We encourage you to have regular communication with your child’s tutor teacher as they are the teachers who have the most contact with them. This year we’ve introduced a new program at WCC whereby students spend 30 minutes with their tutor teacher each morning in efforts to improve engagement and ensure they are ready to learn = WYNtime.
As always, we encourage students to get involved in extracurricular activities, break-time clubs, and sports teams to enhance their secondary school experience and build lasting friendships.
We also encourage parents and carers to stay engaged and informed about their child's academic progress and school activities. You can do this by accessing reports and your child’s teachers on Compass. There will also be an opportunity to meet the teachers in person at our Parent, Student, Teacher conferences in the last week of term one.
We wish all of our students a successful and rewarding school year ahead.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8
We are excited to welcome you back for the 2025 school year!
Our students have already begun settling into new class groups, forming new friendships, and creating a positive environment for growth. The beginning of the year offers an excellent opportunity for our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We kicked off the year with Setting Up for Success Day, where students organized their materials and set goals for the year ahead. Each student was given a new binder, emphasizing the “Ready to Learn” mindset. This organization will support their academic journey throughout the year.
As part of our commitment to well-being, we’ve introduced a Healthy Minds Refresher Quiz, helping students reflect on mental health and develop strategies to manage challenges. This aligns with our focus on nurturing both the academic and emotional growth of our students.
Looking ahead, we are excited to launch our Tutor Program, aimed at empowering students to take ownership of their learning and monitor their progress. This will help them stay engaged and focused on their goals.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
We have dived straight into 2025!
Year 9 is set to be an exciting one for our 2025 cohort. Our students will have several activities and opportunities this year. This year sees students engaging in up to three different electives per semester as well as the Morrisby survey in Term 3 and they also can explore VCE/VM subjects during our ‘Step into your Future’ week.
The introduction of WYNTIME has seen our students begin the year ensuring they are ‘driving’ in their learning with our “Driving to Learn” Mondays and Wednesdays. Reading for pleasure kicks off our Tuesdays and Fridays (please encourage your student to bring reading material), and Thursdays is where our classes build sense of community within their tutor classes. Each day’s activities have been carefully designed to ensure our students are ready to learn and connected with their classes.
Year 9’s Year Level assembly rounds off our weeks on a Friday morning. Our assemblies are often filled with important messages, celebrations, student of the week and our weekly tutor challenges.
Each week students can elect to participate in a challenge, quiz or game to earn a ‘tutor point’ for their class. The class at the end of each term with the most points will be crowned the winner. Each member of the winning class will be given 1000 MyWyndham points and bragging rights.
This week saw the students compete in a challenge of Ms Taylor’s creation. Students had to move jelly beans across the stage using chopsticks. Well done to Terry Cai from 9S taking out the first official tutor challenge.
We acknowledged our first student of the week in our assembly. Teachers were asked to complete a nomination form. This week we have 26 nominations from teachers. Our first Student of the Week was Kristelle Turner of 9F for her consistent determination and focus, and for making a new student feel welcome and a part of their new class. Well done to Kristelle, keep up the great work.
