E-SAFETY

KNOW IT. USE IT. STAY SAFE!

Cybersafety

Why is it important to become familiar with e-safety?

Technology, apps, games and social media are a big part of our children’s everyday lives. As parents and carers, it is important that we become familiar with e-safety so we can confidently support, guide and protect our children as they navigate the online world.

Having open and regular conversations about online safety helps children understand how to make safe and responsible choices. Using the suggested language and conversation starters can help us talk about e-safety in a calm, positive and age-appropriate way, so children know they can always come to a trusted adult if something online makes them feel uncomfortable, worried or unsure.

🛡️ PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION

Keep personal information private, including your full name, address, passwords, school details and photos.

🤔 THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK

Not every link, message, website or pop-up is safe. Stop, think and check before you click, download or share.

💙 BE KIND ONLINE

Remember that there is a real person behind the screen. Use kind and respectful words and never join in with online bullying.

👀 KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO

People online may not always be who they say they are. Never agree to meet someone you have only met online.

🚨 SPEAK UP!

If something online makes you feel worried, uncomfortable, scared or confused, tell a trusted adult. You don't have to deal with it alone.

📱 KNOW YOUR APPS & GAMES

Become familiar with the apps, games and websites your children use. Check privacy settings, age requirements, blocking and reporting tools.

With the school holidays approaching, be mindful that children may have increased screen time. Use this opportunity to check what they are accessing and reinforce safe and responsible technology use.

Setting clear expectations and maintaining open communication can help children enjoy their time online while staying safe.

Becoming familiar with current online risks, popular apps, games, privacy settings and safety tools will help you feel more confident when guiding and supporting your children.
