⚽ STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS – GIRLS SOCCER ⚽
SoGS Girls Soccer – SECOND BEST IN VICTORIA!
What an incredible journey it has been for our School of the Good Shepherd Girls Soccer Team, who have finished Runners-Up at the Victorian State Primary School Girls Soccer Championships!
In a heartbreaking Grand Final, our girls went down 1–0 to St Christopher’s Primary School, Airport West, conceding their first and only goal of the entire tournament in the final minute of the match.
Yes — you read that correctly.
One goal conceded across the entire State Championships.
The girls arrived at the State Championships determined to represent School of the Good Shepherd with pride, and they certainly did that.
⚽ Game 1 – Tongala Primary School
Our opening match was a lengthy and fiercely contested battle against Tongala Primary School, from near Echuca.
The girls worked incredibly hard and eventually found a way through, securing a 1–0 victory to start the tournament with three valuable points.
⚽ Game 2 – Ballarat Grammar
Our second match presented a completely different challenge.
Ballarat Grammar School brought a physically strong and powerful side, and the girls knew they were going to have to work extremely hard to compete.
Once again, our girls showed tremendous determination, discipline and belief. Despite the size and strength of the opposition, SoGS walked away with another 1–0 victory.
Two games.
Two wins.
Two clean sheets.
⚽ Game 3 – Somerville
Our final pool match was against Somerville Primary School, based near the Mornington Peninsula.
With a place in the Grand Final on the line, the girls produced arguably their best performance of the tournament.
A fantastic 2–0 victory secured our place in the State Championship Grand Final.
Three games.
Three wins.
Four goals scored.
Zero goals conceded.
🏆 THE GRAND FINAL
The Grand Final was always going to be our biggest challenge.
As we watched the results coming through from the other pool, it was clear that St Christopher’s Airport West were going to be an enormous test. They had been scoring freely throughout the tournament, defeating teams by margins of five and six goals.
The girls' mindset shifted.
We knew that we needed to be disciplined, organised and extremely difficult to break down.
We changed our approach and went very defensive in the opening half, frustrating St Christopher’s and keeping them away from dangerous areas.
Despite the pressure, our girls held firm.
At half-time, the score remained 0–0.
We had produced just two shots on goal, but we had achieved exactly what we set out to do — we were still in the game.
The second half became an absolute arm wrestle.
Both teams were tiring. Legs were getting heavy, passes were being mis-kicked and tired throws were beginning to creep into the game.
Then, in the final minute, the moment arrived.
A chance fell to a St Christopher’s player just outside the box.
What happened next was something special.
She struck the ball with a world-class finish from outside the box, finding the back of the net and scoring the solitary goal that would win St Christopher’s the Victorian State Championship.
St Christopher’s 1 – 0 SoGS
The final whistle followed shortly afterwards.
Heartbreak.
Disappointment.
But also an enormous sense of pride.
💙 SECOND BEST IN VICTORIA!
While the girls were understandably devastated after coming so close, there is absolutely nothing for them to be disappointed about.
From a school of approximately 375 students, with only four classes to select our team from, our girls have achieved something truly remarkable.
They have travelled from our school community in Gladstone Park and competed against some of the strongest primary school soccer programs in Victoria.
They have won three matches.
They have scored four goals.
They have conceded just one goal across the entire State Championships.
And they can now proudly claim that the School of the Good Shepherd has the SECOND BEST PRIMARY GIRLS SOCCER TEAM IN ALL OF VICTORIA!
What an achievement.
What a tournament.
What a team.

A very special thank you to all of the parents, friends and family members who made the trip to support our girls throughout the day.
Seeing so many familiar faces on the sidelines, cheering, encouraging and celebrating every tackle, save, pass and goal meant so much to the players and helped create an incredible atmosphere.
Your support throughout this entire journey has been outstanding, and the girls are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful group of people behind them.
A special thank you also goes to Xavier, who came along and helped out on the day. Your assistance and support were greatly appreciated and helped make the day run so smoothly.
To everyone who has supported this team throughout their journey — thank you.
To our players — you should be incredibly proud of yourselves.
To our families and supporters — thank you for being there every step of the way.
And to our incredible team — this may have ended with a heartbreaking final-minute defeat, but it has also created a memory that these girls will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Junior Hooptime – A Fantastic Day for SoGS!
On Wednesday 2nd September, selected students from Years 3 and 4 proudly represented the School of the Good Shepherd at Junior Hooptime at Keilor Basketball Stadium.
Our students were split across two Future Stars teams, the SoGS Suns and the SoGS Sharks, and what a day it turned out to be!
The SoGS Suns, coached by Angela S, were crowned Junior Hooptime Champions, while the SoGS Sharks finished as runners-up after the two SoGS teams met in an exciting Grand Final. It was a fantastic achievement to have both of our teams competing against each other for the championship!
While the results were certainly something to celebrate, the highlight of the day was watching our students take to the court with fantastic sportsmanship, enthusiasm, teamwork and, most importantly, pure enjoyment of playing basketball. They supported one another, encouraged their teammates and represented our school with great pride.
A huge thank you to all of our parents, carers and families who came along to support our students throughout the day. Your encouragement from the sidelines helped create such a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for our players.
We would also like to extend an extra-special thank you to Ms Paige, Ms Leanne, Angela S, Oliver D and Scarlett W for giving up their time to help, support and coach our students on the day. Your contribution was greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.

What a fantastic day for SoGS basketball!
Senior Hooptime!
On Monday 7th September, selected students from Years 5 and 6 proudly represented the School of the Good Shepherd at Senior Hooptime at Keilor Basketball Stadium.
Our students competed across three teams — the All Star Boys, All Star Girls and Future Stars — and once again showed what it means to represent our school with pride, respect and sportsmanship.
All Star Boys – Champions!
A huge congratulations to our All Star Boys, who were crowned Senior Hooptime Champions after an incredible Grand Final that went into overtime!
The boys showed tremendous determination, teamwork and composure to get across the line and secure the championship. A special thank you to Rob D, who took on the role of coach and guided the boys throughout the day. We greatly appreciate Rob stepping up to coach the team and helping the boys achieve such a wonderful result.
All Star Girls – 3rd in Pool
Our All Star Girls, coached by Adrian L, enjoyed a highly competitive day and battled hard throughout the competition. The girls finished a very respectable 3rd in their pool, demonstrating great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout their games.
A big thank you to Adrian for coaching and supporting the girls throughout the day.
Future Stars – 4th in Division
Our Future Stars, coached by Ms Pitt, competed with plenty of enthusiasm and determination. The team challenged themselves throughout the day, played to the best of their ability and finished 4th in their division.
Most importantly, the students continued to support one another and represented SoGS with pride.

While the results were fantastic, what stood out most was the way all three teams represented themselves, their families and the School of the Good Shepherd.
Our students competed with respect, great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and a genuine enjoyment of simply being on the court and playing basketball. They encouraged one another, supported their teammates and showed wonderful respect towards opposition players, coaches and officials.
A huge thank you to all of our parents, carers and families who came along to support our students. Your encouragement and support from the sidelines helped make the day such a memorable experience for our players.
