Year 1 sleepover
Thursday 24th September to Friday 25th September
We are looking for volunteers for the Year 1 sleepover. If you are willing and able to stay overnight or help during the Thursday afternoon/evening with preparations, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Hats
These must be at school for children to play as per the school policy.
Special Person’s Afternoon
Friday 18th September is Special Person’s Afternoon. Your child is encouraged to invite a special person such as grandparent in their life to this event. If grandparents cannot attend, they may like to invite a neighbour or perhaps you as parents could attend. We will begin with the concert at 1.15 pm followed by classroom visits and afternoon tea.

Shoelaces
Our students are currently taking part in Tri-Skills and Movement Skills lessons where they are required to take off their shoes. If your child has shoes with laces, independence in tying the laces when they come undone is needed.
Home Inquiry
Have a look at playgrounds in your area. Take photos and send them in so we can compare aspects that your child likes about the playground and aspects that they don’t like. These ideas will lead into our next Unit of Inquiry investigations.
Reading: We encourage your child to read every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. Once you have read the ‘decodable book’ 2 or 3 times, please send it back with the recording sheet.
The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Year 1: Pronouns and Word families

Christian Studies
Students will be exploring the idea that Christians have been asked to take care of the world. We will be exploring what action can be taken and what is means to be caretakers.
Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop
Students will be exploring different types of procedures and the structure of writing them.
Mathematics:
Students continue to practice place value of numbers as well as mapping and 2D shapes.
Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works
Students are moving into the investigation phase as designers. We will be exploring different playgrounds, the equipment and how the space is used. They will be planning their own playground space.
