Messages from our Librarian - Mrs Adams

National Simultaneous Reading Time

On Wednesday we joined 2 204 698 children to read The Truck Cat. This was across

16 632 locations. How amazing is that? The children have really enjoyed the book and it was wonderful to have Debra Frenkel, the author read it to us.

After the reading, we joined the public school in watching the Truckie's Parade with Tinka (the truck cat) in the window making an appearance. Over 20 trucks joined in and children lined Church St and Meade St to enjoy the spectacle.  Stages 2 and 3 also had the extra benefit of the Pacific Highway being closed with so many extra trucks passing by. The children's faces on the day told the joy.

A big thanks must go to all our truck drivers and police officers who joined in so that we could safely enjoy the parade. Thank you to our parents, Grandparents and friends of St Josephs involved. It was lovely to join with the Public School in celebrating this invent and a big thank you must go to Katie Randall the Librarian who organised this wonderful event.

Children Not Borrowing?

Is you child not borrowing each week? Have they overdue books at home?

At St Joseph's we encourage every child to borrow however there are children who have overdue books at home. It is our policy for children to return books before children can borrow their new book. Books are expensive and many of our books have been donated and we value all books. Please encourage your child to return and borrow each week.

Reading Platforms

We have 2 platforms where children can read at home.

Storybox Library is an amazing website where quality picture books are read to the child. This website caters for all children at our school, there are picture books suitable to the older, capable reader.

Sora is the online portal where children can borrow EBooks, audio Books, magazines and graphic novels. This is wonderful as there are no missing books and books can be borrowed at anytime. There are lots and lots of books with different genres catering for all our readers.

Children just need their Chrome book login to access and search our school by using ACEN (Australian Catholic Education Network)

Both these platforms have apps which can be downloaded to your device.

Please contact me if you need any help in accessing these platforms.
