St Joseph’s Cross Country Carnival

Despite less-than-ideal weather on Monday, May 12th, our school community rallied together to successfully host our annual Cross Country Carnival.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the following individuals and groups whose support was invaluable:

  • Food Vendors: The Lion’s Van for providing a delicious lunch and Liz from Little Sunshine Cafe for keeping us energised with vital coffee.
  • Venue: Damian and the team at the Glen Innes Golf Course for providing picturesque grounds and their facilities.
  • Transportation: Hancock’s for safely transporting our students to and from the event.
  • Early Setup and Course Support: John Cameron and Sharon Jarvis, who dedicated their entire Monday to setting up and assisting students and parents on the course.
  • Student Health and Safety: Bec Willis and Karen Fletcher for their diligent efforts in ensuring the well-being of our students.
  • Guidance: Casey Chard, for your wonderful support in the early morning setup along with running the day.
  • Dedicated Staff: Our amazing staff members who consistently go above and beyond to create the best possible day for our students.
  • Incredible Parent Helpers: Your generous volunteer time spent on the course, timing, and recording results was essential for student safety. We are immensely grateful to Adriana Pietsch, Brigitte Brummell, Fiona Poschelk, Stephanie Hollingworth, Alise McBain, Kylie Neville, Tess Watson, Krystle Nugent, Allana Price, Michael van der Waal, Margot Davis, Casey Hogan, Therese Carseldine, Tara Looker, Kylie Falconer, Sue-Ellen Cooper, Belinda Stanton, Emma Newberry, Matt Pope, and Nicole Watson.

Seeing all our students actively participate, whether running or assisting our youngest learners in novelty games, validated our decision to proceed with the event after two previous postponements. The effort, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship displayed by our students and staff filled me with pride as a teacher at our wonderful school. A particular highlight was witnessing Alec Newberry's determined finish with only one shoe, even managing a smile. Our Year 6 students also demonstrated remarkable support and compassion by assisting our Kindergarten and Stage 1 students in their races and games.

Well done to everyone involved!

Armidale Catholic Schools Touch Football Trials

Last Friday, May 16th, Wilson Park in Glen Innes buzzed with energy as we proudly hosted approximately 80 talented students from across the Diocese for the Armidale Catholic Schools Touch Football Trials. The grounds looked fantastic, and a big thank you goes to Steven McAllister and the Glen Innes Council team for their excellent preparation.

Selectors Bindi Abel, Bella Rasche, and Steph Halpin faced the tough task of choosing the top 10 boys and 10 girls for the ACS Touch Football Teams. They were impressed not only by the players' touch football skills but also by their communication and teamwork throughout the day. Congratulations to Brooke Graham, Maggie Doust, Peyton McBain, and Rosemary Wright, who earned their spots in the girls' team after demonstrating outstanding effort on both attack and defense. While the boys faced a strong field of experienced players, they displayed great spirit and determination.

A huge shout out to the fantastic student referees from Glen Innes High School: Patrick Wright, Aden McBain, Dustin McBain, Billy James, Hunter Ferris, Beau Macrae, and a late addition, Aila McBain. The selectors consistently praised their clear explanations and excellent management of the games. Thank you to these students for their invaluable contribution to the day's success, and our appreciation extends to their teacher Richard Taylor and Principal Natalie Hill for their support. Gus Macrae also generously assisted us by refereeing in the boys’ Possibles and Probables game. We thank Gus for helping us out on the day.

Our amazing P&F Committee once again proved their culinary prowess by expertly catering the event. Despite it being a new challenge, their delicious food and seamless teamwork were a highlight. We also appreciate Mel Bush from Floatin’ Around Coffee for keeping everyone energized with their much-needed caffeine.

Finally, a big thank you to Diocesan Sports Coordinator Heidi Hardaker for organising the trials and for giving Glen Innes the opportunity to host. The support was fantastic, and we hope to welcome more events like this in the future.

Congratulations to all our Glen Innes students who participated with enthusiasm and skill: Claire Bailey, Sam Barratt, Jimmy Chard, Maggie Doust, Angus Falconer, Brooke Graham, Emily Halloran, Peyton McBain, Kash McPhillips, Matt Pietsch, Josh Pietsch, and Rosemary Wright.
