Question: How can we use light and sound to bring joy?

This term, we are thrilled to introduce our Inquiry unit, "How can we use light and sound to bring joy?" Throughout this unit, learners will explore the fascinating properties of light and sound, discovering how these elements can create joyful experiences. Students will conduct experiments to investigate how light is produced and how sound travels, experimenting with various materials to see their effects. They will engage in hands-on learning tasks to understand the science behind these phenomena and explore how light and sound can be used creatively. Students will apply their newfound knowledge to contribute to the Prep Prom, showcasing their understanding and celebrating the joy that light and sound can bring to our community. We can’t wait to see their creativity shine!

How can you support your child’s Inquiry learning at home?  

- Encourage Exploration: Provide opportunities for your child to explore light and sound in everyday life. Simple activities like playing with flashlights, observing shadows, or experimenting with musical instruments can spark their curiosity.

- Ask Questions: Engage your child in discussions about their learning. Ask questions like, “What do you think makes a sound?” or “How does light help us see?” This encourages critical thinking and helps them articulate their ideas.

- Conduct Simple Experiments: Try simple experiments together, such as creating a homemade musical instrument or using mirrors to reflect light. These hands-on activities reinforce concepts learned in class and make learning fun.

Hands on Science Incursion

To kick off our exploration of sound and light, we are planning on hosting an exciting incursion. This incursion will bring experts into the classroom, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with science professionals. Students will participate in demonstrations and activities that make complex scientific concepts assessable and engaging.

Through these activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of the physical world around them. They will learn how sound and light are integral to our daily lives and how they can be measured and manipulated.
