Aberfeldie Primary School Freeze MND Fundraiser
Exciting news! Aberfeldie Primary School is participating in the DIY Big Freeze 11 fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) this year.
MND is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move around, speak, swallow and breathe fail to work normally and eventually die. With no nerves to activate them, the muscles gradually weaken and waste. More than 2,000 people are currently fighting MND in Australia, with an average life expectancy of just 27 months from diagnosis. Today, two Australians will die from MND, and two more will be diagnosed. Founded in 2014, FightMND was established with the purpose of finding effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a Beast. It is an insidious disease without any effective treatment or a cure, but over the past ten years, FightMND has been able to make real change.
So, we are going to make a splash in our community, raising money and awareness by hosting our very own DIY Big Freeze at Aberfeldie Primary School! Here's everything you need to know:
When: Term 2, Week 9: Monday 16th June
Blue Casual Clothes Day: Students and staff can show support by wearing blue attire and their Freeze MND Beanies and/or socks on the day.
Ice Bucket Challenge: The event will include a very special Big Freeze assembly where some teachers will get a bucket of ice water poured on their heads!
Donating: The students who raise the most amount of money will get to pour the ice-cold water onto the teachers heads. To donate, you can scan the QR code attached to the flyer. You can also bring a gold coin donation to school on the day.

Scholastic Book Club Issue 4 out now!
Dear Parents and Carers
Issue 4 of the Scholastic Book Club is coming home with students from today. You can also find the catalogue attached to this news feed.
Purchases made through Book Club also support our Library. Our school receives a commission from each order to put towards new books for our students to read.
Aberfeldie PS runs a CASHLESS Book Club. No cash payments are to be forwarded to the school as all orders and payments are made online via the LOOP portal at https://mybookclubs.scholastic.cm.au/Parent/Login.aspx
This issues orders will close on Monday 9th June.
Books will be delivered to the school around 2 weeks after the closing date and handed to students in their classrooms. If you would like to collect your order from the office, please tick the 'GIFT' box when ordering and we will contact you for collection.
