Year 5 and 6 Interschool Sport

Gallery Image

On Friday morning our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the first round of interschool sports for the year. Students attended Bat Tennis, Softball, Cricket and a range of activities at the YMCA. I am so impressed with the comprehensive interschool sports program at WPS, maximising participation for all students. I attended the cricket game and the students all demonstrated our school values, great sportsmanship and excellent skills on the field.

Literacy and Numeracy Intervention

Our Literacy and Numeracy Intervention programs has commenced for this year. This program provides targeted literacy and/or numeracy intervention or extension program during the school term.

These programs are designed to support and extend student learning by providing small-group instruction that responds to students’ current learning needs. Participation is based on a range of classroom observations and assessment information and is part of our school’s commitment to supporting every student to make progress.

For some students, this support provides:

  • Additional time to strengthen key literacy or numeracy skills, or
  • Consolidate key learning concepts
  • Opportunities to extend and deepen understanding through targeted extension activities.

These sessions take place during school hours and are planned to ensure students continue to engage with their classroom learning. Families of students selected for our term 1 program have been notified by email.

We want your feedback!

We are currently exploring a range of options to improve our communication with parents and families. We would love for you to complete this survey to provide feedback about XUNO and QKR! Click here to complete the survey - we really value your thoughts and it will only take 3 minutes of your time to complete.

NAPLAN

Each year our Year 3 and 5 students participate in the NAPLAN assessments. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum, and allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards. This year they will be begin on Wednesday 11 March 2026 and finish on Monday 23 March 2026. Please click here for a link to the parent information flyer. If you have any concerns about your Year 3 or Year 5 child participating in NAPLAN, please contact your class teacher.

Travel Safely to School

At WPS, we want all of our students and their families to travel safely to and from school. The TAC’s Safe Migration Project is designed to give parents and carers practical tips to help their children travel safely to and from primary school. Click the link here for an informative fact sheet. A reminder that we ask everyone to walk their bikes and scooters when inside the school yard. All riders must wear a helmet. I have also included information in regards to Electric bike (e-bike) safety for your information.

Wishing everyone a week of learning and fun!
