Faith and Mission

This week we have enjoyed celebrating Founders’ Time, a chance to reflect on the three people whose vision and values continue to shape life at John XXIII College: Mary Ward, St Ignatius of Loyola and Pope John XXIII. Mary Ward was a pioneering woman of faith who believed that girls and women should have access to education and opportunities to make a difference in the world. St Ignatius of Loyola inspired a way of living that encourages reflection, discernment and a commitment to serving others. Pope John XXIII led the Church with warmth, hope and openness, calling people to engage with the world through compassion and dialogue. Their commitment to faith, service and justice remains an integral part of our College story. 

The week culminated in our John XXIII Day celebrations, with students and staff coming together to enjoy a variety of stalls and live performances, providing plenty of opportunities to connect as a community. It was a day full of fun, enthusiasm and generosity. Importantly, the money raised will support the work of Mary Ward International Australia and Jesuit Mission Australia, helping to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

At our John XXlll Day College Mass we heard the Gospel of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). It is a story many of us know well, but its message remains as important as ever. Jesus reminds us that being a good neighbour is not just about who we know or where we come from. It is about noticing those around us, responding with compassion and being generous of spirit. It is a simple challenge that sits at the heart of our commitment to be people for others.

As we finish Founders’ Time, we also look ahead to this Saturday's Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Her life was marked by courage, resilience and a deep trust in God. Like our founders, she showed that faith is lived through service, kindness and care for others. Her example is a fitting reminder that each of us can make a positive difference through the choices we make every day.

Community Mass

Next Friday, 14 August, students in Ward House will prepare the Community Mass, and families are warmly encouraged to attend. 

Community Mass is for everyone in the College community. Families can choose to attend every Friday or just occasionally. New families or families who have had a long association with the College – all are welcome!
