On Tuesday 26 of November our Year 5/6 Girls Hot Shots Tennis team competed at the School Sport Victoria Championships. The girls were all so excited to be playing at the prestigious Kooyong Tennis Club and walk on the same courts as their idol Ash Barty. The girls have been training hard in the lead up to the event, and all players and spectators were dressed appropriately in collared tops, as was advised to all school to ensure the dress code at Kooyong was upheld.

Our girls won 2 of their 3 pool matches to book themselves a spot in the semi-finals. We lost our first semi, however, went on to finish 3rd place overall. What a fantastic achievement to be recognised as the 3rd best team in Victoria. This group of girls, after dropping only 2 matches at this week’s state event, along with coming Runner Up at Division last year, have won 29 of its 33 played matches across the last 2 years, as well as being the first tennis team to represent Park Ridge at a State level in our school’s history.

It has been an absolute pleasure to watch these girls compete, with their sportsmanship, integrity, respect and genuine kindness for their teammates were a opponents are real highlight.

Ellee and Evie even were awarded with a prize from the officials for being the first ones in the venue to begin to pack up the nets! I’d also like to thank Pauline for assisting with coaching the team on their pathway through the levels, and Hyra for assisting with transportation.

Well done once again to Tiara, Anvi, Holly, Liah, Ellee, Nicola, Sammy, Gina, Layla and Evie, you should all be very proud of what you have achieved, and the way you have represented Park Ridge Primary School.
