100 Days of School Fun!

The day finally arrived and we celebrated 100 Days of School! We are so proud of our amazing Foundation students and all they have learned and achieved during their first 100 days.

There was so much laughter, excitement, and fun throughout the day. Everyone looked fantastic in their specially designed 100 Days T-shirts, each one unique and creative. A huge thank you to our families for your support and creativity in helping make this day so special.

We began with an Acknowledgement of Country before some students shared their favourite memories from the past 100 days. We then enjoyed a parade, cheered on by other classes and families.

Throughout the day, the children took part in lots of fun 100 Days activities, including eating fairy bread, drawing what they might look like at 100 years old, and of course, the disco filled with dancing, singing, games, and lots of smiles.

We can't wait to see what the next 100 days will bring for our clever, curious, and enthusiastic learners!

Book week parade

Our highly anticipated book week parade will be held once again on Wednesday 26th August. Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character or connected to this year's theme of ‘a symphony of stories’ or as something inspired by a published book. Parents/carers are welcome to join us on the oval from 9.10am.

Author visits

Each year level will participate in an incursion with a published author. They will discuss their experiences and share their knowledge and skills with students.  Please see event details on compass for specific information regarding your child’s incursion.

Book fair

Our much loved book fair for students will be on again in the MPR from Tuesday morning until Friday afternoon during book week. Please come and visit us and support our library fundraiser.

Busking

In connection to the theme this year of ‘symphony of stories’ we are also looking forward to some of our talented students busking around the school on stages set up on Tuesday during book week.

Auslan

Is your child interested in learning more Auslan at home? Hobsons Bay Libraries now offer Auslan Learning Kits that families can borrow to continue building their signing skills in a fun and engaging way.

Each kit includes a children's storybook paired with Auslan signs, along with themed tactile resources such as toys, props and flashcards. The kits are designed to make learning interactive and accessible, helping children develop their understanding of everyday signs and vocabulary through play and storytelling.

The Auslan Learning Kits are available to borrow free of charge from Newport Library (and other Hobsons Bay Libraries) with a library membership. If your child would like to practise their Auslan skills at home, we encourage you to visit the library and borrow a kit.

Science Week runs from August 17–21 this year, which is Week 6 of Term 3. The theme is Seeds of Science - Nurturing Knowledge for all. Students will take part in themed Science Week lessons during their regular STEM classes at school.

We’re also offering an optional Science Week Challenge for students to complete at home. Please see the image below for details.

Students may work individually or with siblings/friends. Creations should be brought to school by Wednesday 12th August, so that we can set up a display for classes to visit and enjoy.

We’re looking forward to seeing the creative designs that students come up with!

Thanks,

James and Myffy
