2026 Colour Run - LIVE From 7th August!
We are excited to announce that our Colour Run is set to go LIVE from tomorrow, Friday 7th August!
Flyers will be coming home with students on Friday with instructions on how to create your child's personal fundraising page!
What Families Need to Know
Parents’ Club are excited to launch the NLPS Colour Fun Run, a whole-school fundraising event that brings students, families and staff together for fun, colour, community spirit and a shared goal! The Colour Fun Run event will take place on Friday 16th October.
Every student participates in the Colour Fun Run, regardless of whether they fundraise. If your child/ren does not want colour thrown on them, please have them wear a non white coloured t-shirt (e.g. red or black)
Most importantly, this event is about inclusion, community spirit, teamwork and shared achievement. Every student is part of the celebration.
What’s the Goal?
Your tax deductable donation is going towards lots of exciting things to upgrade and improve our student spaces (upgrades scheduled to commence during Term 3 holidays) and including;
- Revamping the school quiet yard
- Creating a new outdoor classroom space next to the Gym
- An exciting new ‘surprise’ playground addition to come!

Weekly prizes for the classes that raise the most each week - the more you share with your friends and family asking for donations the more opportunities there are for your class to win!!
All you need to do is set up a profile for your child/ren in their class fundraising page and share your personal link to your friends and family and raise as much money as you can!

Gardening Club
The Gardening Club has been a hive of activity and interest this term. At the beginning of the term we received a delivery of 50 tube stock trees and shrubs as part of the Trees for Schools Program run by Greater Western Water.
Each plant comes with a cardboard tree guard and stake which will keep it protected while it grows bigger and stronger. The Gardening Club have been enjoying planting out the trees around the reception area, sensory garden and buddy benches under the big oak tree. We will continue planting and watering our new leafy friends throughout Term 3 and hopefully they will develop a good base to survive the summer.
We have also planted an established Silver Princess gum outside reception, the beautiful red branches will turn a white/silver colour over time and the large gum nuts burst into brilliant red-pink blossoms in winter. We are definitely excited to see this one grow and create a welcoming entrance to our school.
It’s so great to be a part of a project that makes the school a greener space, helps the environment and is attracting more native bird and insect life to the school yard.
Tournament of the Minds
This year Newport Lakes is excited to be entering a team in the Tournament of Minds challenge. Tournament of Minds is a national program that challenges students in Year 4 to 6 to work together in teams of 7 to solve a long-term, open-ended problem, then present their solution through a creative performance in front of a live audience and judges. The Literacy stream asks students to think deeply about language, storytelling, and communication; stretching their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills beyond the classroom.
Over the first half of Term 3, our team of students will meet regularly (without direct teacher assistance, as per TOM rules!) to brainstorm ideas, script their performance, build props, and rehearse. It's a wonderful opportunity for them to take ownership of a project from start to finish, learn to collaborate under pressure, and think outside the box. Students will be presenting their challenge solution and responding to a spontaneous challenge prompt at the Melbourne Metro Competition in the middle of August.
A huge congratulations to the students selected for the team, and a big thank you to the staff and families who are encouraging them along the way.
