PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
We have a whole school social skills lesson where we explicitly teach an expected behaviour from our Behaviour Expectation matrix.
This week we have focused on RESPECT: Care for the environment/resources in the Learning Space.
It is important that we respect our learning space by ensuring we are returning items we borrow and put things back in the right place after we have finished using it. Our learning Space is a shared area and to make sure we all have access to materials we need to return them after we use them.
Here are some of our lucky raffle winners from last week who have been demonstrating expected behaviours at school.
Well done to Dhiren, Ethan, Mary and Alaia!
ACTION FOR HAPPINESS CALENDAR: ALTRUISTIC AUGUST
It is hard to believe we are almost in a new month. The August calendar from Action for Happiness is all about ‘Altruism”.
Altruism means helping others without expecting anything in return. It is good for us because it boosts happiness, improves physical health, and builds strong social connections. Why not try some of these actions together as a family.
Lego Club
We have started lego club again for term 3. This is available for Junior students to attend during the second lunch break on a Friday.
I have a number of Senior students who volunteer to help set up and pack up lego club as well as help the Junior students with their builds. Each week I give the students a building challenge to make things fun.
Last week’s challenge was to build a place, this could be a farm, a house, a school, a playground or any place you can go to. Here are some of the students enjoying lego club last Friday and proudly showing their build.
Lunchtime clubs in schools improve student wellbeing, social inclusion, and positive behavior by providing structured, engaging activities during unstructured break times. They offer safe spaces for students who find the busy playground overwhelming, helping to reduce bullying and foster new friendships.
At SFS, our students have an opportunity to participate in a variety of Lunchtime clubs including Mini Vinnines, Garden Grubs, Art Club, Senior Choir, Lego Club, Rosary club as well as sporting practice.
TERM 3 AWARENESS DAYS
We have a number of important awareness days in Term 3 which promote health and wellbeing.
Firstly, we have National week of Action against Bullying and Violence also known as Bullying no way week. Bullying No Way Week is Australia’s leading initiative for bullying prevention in schools. It’s an opportunity for schools to foster a shared understanding of bullying behaviours and highlight strategies for their prevention. This will be held on 17–21 August 2026. This national week of action unites government, Catholic and independent schools and their communities across the country. Together, we can inspire practical solutions to prevent bullying in Australian schools. Stay tuned for more information and how the students will celebrate this week. SFS students will participate in the “Largest Anti Bullying lesson online” during the week which is run by Kid’s Helpline. In the lesson students will:
- learn how to use their power for good
- hear two real life stories of how other kids stopped bullying
- learn one easy, age-appropriate strategy to shut bullying down
Secondly, we have National Child Protection Week. National Child Protection Week will run across Australia from September 6–12, 2026. Coordinated by NAPCAN, the campaign's theme is "Every conversation matters, Shifting Conversation to Action," urging all Australians to turn awareness into practical steps that keep children safe and supported. NAPCAN stands for the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. It is an Australian non-profit organization focused on stopping child abuse and neglect before it starts.
Thirdly, we celebrate R U OK day. R U OK? Day is a national day of action in Australia, held
annually on the second Thursday of September, encouraging people to check in with those around them. In 2026, R U OK? Day takes place on Thursday, 10 September 2026.The theme for R U OK? Day 2026 is "Ask R U OK? Any Day". This message serves as a reminder that meaningful conversations should not be limited to a single day on the calendar, as life’s challenges and opportunities to support one another happen every day of the year.
Stay tuned to find out more about how the students will celebrate these important days and explore the message of each day to promote mental health and wellbeing.
