Music Matters
We head into Term 4 with fabulous news celebrating some of our musicians:
ENCORE Nomination
Congratulations to Year 12 Music 1 Alto Saxophonist, Rhys Bourke, on his nomination for ENCORE, the prestigious annual showcase of outstanding HSC Music performances, held at the Sydney Opera House. Congratulations also to his classroom teacher, Mr Brendan Jones, and instrumental tutor, Mr Tony Wheeler, for their guidance and support throughout his musical journey.
Many of you will have had the pleasure of hearing Rhys perform at our recent Graduation celebrations at Oxford Falls, where his superb rendition of the jazz ballad Georgia on My Mind left the audience spellbound. Rhys also delighted audiences at our Farewell to Seniors Twilight Concert and the HSC Showcase: Splinters, Splashes, Sounds, Snaps, Stage and Stories.
This nomination is a wonderful recognition of Rhys's exceptional musicianship, dedication and talent, and we congratulate him on this outstanding achievement!
AMEB results
We congratulate the following students and their tutors for these fantastic AMEB results:
Enri Jacome (Year 5) - 2nd Grade Saxophone - A (Ms Laura Power)
Ravi Wong (Year 7) - 5th Grade Saxophone - B+ (Ms Laura Power)
Tristan de Souza (Year 7) – 1st Grade Piano - A+ (Ms Stephanie Gan)
Stephane Delterme (Year 5) – Grade 5 Piano - A
External examinations, such as those offered by the AMEB, provide students with valuable opportunities to explore a diverse range of repertoire while developing and refining their musical skills and techniques. They also provide clear goals for students to work towards, fostering motivation, confidence and a sense of achievement throughout their musical journey. Well done!
PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL - PRIVATE TUITION STUDIO CONCERTS
Commencing next week, every student undertaking private music tuition at the College can perform in a special recital organised by their tutor. These recitals provide a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their progress in an intimate and supportive setting, while also enjoying performances by their peers and discovering new repertoire to inspire their own musical development. Students are expected to wear school uniform. Parking will be available on school grounds; entry via Kirk St.
Please see the schedule below, listed by tutor name:
School gates will be open for parking, with entry via Kirk Street. Gates automatically open upon exit.
Please reach out to your son’s tutor, or Mr Stephen Cummins, Coordinator of Private Tuition (scummins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au) should you require further information.

Drama Matters
Treasure Island
These are our rehearsals for the next two weeks. Students should bring their script and a pen or pencil each rehearsal. Each student is called for the scene their character is in. It is each actor’s responsibility to go through the text and make note of each section they are in. Sometimes it might look like they don’t have much to do, but they definitely will be part of the action, even if they are a minor character.
If your son is called on Sunday, please arrive ten minutes before the call time. They should enter the Sarto and sit quietly reading their script or watch the rehearsals. No phones in the rehearsal room. Some students will be at the Sarto all day so they should bring their lunch. Students do not go to the shops for their lunch as we all eat together.
Please be aware that Year 9 students involved in the play (who have been at camp) will be expected to come to the first rehearsal on Friday 16th October. Also remember if you are sick, please email either myself PLindley@stpiusx.com.au or Ms Ryan JRyan@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
Drama Elective Showcase: Friday 23 October from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Years 9, 10 and 11 will share some of their excellent classwork and assessment performances from 2026. Save the date and come along to witness some of the wonderful talent we have at the College! It is shaping up to be an outstanding year of dramatic work.
Term 4 Events:
Intermediate Drama Ensemble will begin in Week 1.
