Health Update – Gastroenteritis

We are currently experiencing an increase in cases of gastroenteritis within our school community. Gastroenteritis can spread very easily, particularly through contact with contaminated hands and surfaces.

Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach cramps and/or fever.

To help prevent further spread, please keep your child at home if they are unwell.

**If your child has vomiting or diarrhoea, they must remain at home until they have been free from both vomiting and loose bowel motions for at least 48 hours.**

Please also encourage your child to:

- Wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water, particularly after using the toilet and before eating.

- Avoid sharing food, drinks or utensils with others.

- Take extra care with hand hygiene at home.

- Stay home and rest if they develop symptoms.

If your child becomes unwell at school, we will contact you to arrange for them to be collected. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us reduce the spread of illness and keep our school community healthy. Exclusion information if you are interested. https://www.health.vic.gov.au/infectious-diseases/school-exclusion-table#exclusion-periods-table

Health Reminder

It is important that we all continue to monitor our own and the health of our children daily, during this time. If you or your child develops any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath:

  • Stay at home and do not attend school

  • Seek medical advice

  • Call the school to let us know of any important outcomes

  • If you or your child has a health condition or complex health needs, please discuss this with your medical specialist.

  • Information about coronavirus (COVID-19) is available on the DHHS website.

Our school is continuing to promote and implement on a daily basis both Covid-safe behaviours and practices across our school community.

Head Lice and Nits

We have had several case of lice in our school recently. It would be a good idea to check your child's head to minimise the spread. Below is a link to some information from the Better Health Channel.
