R U OK? Three words can Make a Difference

Sometimes, three simple words — ‘R U OK?’ — can make a very big difference. They show someone that we notice them, we care about them and we are ready to listen. 

This R U OK? Day, we encourage our children to look out for one another, be kind, include others and remember that a small moment of care can brighten someone’s day.

On the final day of term, we will be bringing messages of kindness, friendship, connection and plenty of smiles when we will have a day of celebration and acknowledgment for R U Ok? Day together with MND day.

Gratitude for our Learning Support Officers

Last week was National Teacher Aide Appreciation week. Here at SVC we call our teacher aides, Learning Support Officers, who quite simply, we, and our boys, could not do without.

Our team of LSOs are: Nicole Read, Mia Giles, Ethan Hine, Josh Zeeman, Heather Priest, Lola Lester, Theresia Thomas and Julie Stokes.

Learning Support Officers often make it possible for a child to have a successful day at school and nobody may ever realise just how much they did to make that happen. They are the quiet problem-solvers, encouragers, organisers, confidence-builders and supporters who help classrooms run smoothly every single day. 

A Morning with the Men Who Matter

The Junior School Campus was buzzing with excitement for our annual Father’s Day Breakfast, as boys and their special guests came together for a morning of good food, great coffee and quality time together. 

Our wonderful mothers and members of the P&F were up bright and early, firing up the BBQs and making sure everyone was well fed. 

Hospitality Teacher Aaron Lucas, LSO Chris Tsakiris and our VET students were busy behind the coffee machines, serving up barista-made coffees and plenty of hot chocolates — which proved to be the most popular choice of the morning! The football tickets were another hot commodity, selling out quickly.

A huge thank you to all the dads, grandads, uncles, older brothers and special people who joined us, and to our amazing P&F for once again helping make this special morning such a success. It was a wonderful celebration of the people who play such an important role in the lives of our boys.

Flying the SVC Flag: Webb Team Selection

Each year, at the culmination of the STCPSSA Year 5/6 Football Competition, we celebrate the athleticism, skill and sportsmanship of some of the competition’s standout players. Each participating school is invited to nominate players who have demonstrated exceptional ability and contribution throughout the season.

We are delighted to announce that Winston Whittle, Harvey Gilmore, Joe Langdale and Jack Kilgour have been selected to represent SVC in the Webb Team this year. Congratulations, boys, on this wonderful achievement!

Adding to the excitement, we are thrilled that the Webb Team will be coached by none other than our own Mr Hudson Arkley and Miss Mia Giles.

The Webb Team will take to the field at St Aloysius next Wednesday, 16 September, at 4pm. Players will proudly wear their SVC jumpers as they represent our school.

We wish Winston, Harvey and Jack all the very best for the game and look forward to cheering them on!

Expected Fun, House Spirit and Healthy Competition for our House Athletics Carnival 

By the time this newsletter goes to print we will have completed our annual House Athletics Carnival for Years 2 to 6. Look for all the results and House winners in the next newsletter addition.

Making Music and Memories Together 

Recently our Year 5 and 6 boys spent the day with their SMC counterparts in our annual band day. The students collaborated with the aid of their Music tutors and teachers. They learned and rehearsed five pieces of Music, culminating in a wonderful combined concert which was attended by family members and students of both Junior Schools.

It was a wonderful day of celebration of both Music departments as well as celebrating the talent of our budding Year 5 and 6 musicians.

JATNET (Japanese Language Teachers Association of Tasmania) Speech Competition

Some 19 of our students from Years 3 to 6 recorded their own speeches under the expert guidance of Mrs Alison Wignell and Mr Bruce Woods recently. The boys have worked very hard to write and rehearse their speeches. Mrs Wignell will select eight speeches to enter in the annual JATNET Competition. 

Congratulations to all boys who worked hard on the preparation, learning and reciting of their speeches.

Footy Colours Day 

AFL Grand Final Week is almost here, and the Junior School is ready to get into the footy spirit. On Wednesday 23 September, all boys from Kinder to Year 6, are invited to wear the colours of their favourite AFL team and show their support as we celebrate one of the biggest weeks on the AFL football calendar.

To make the day even better, our Junior School P&F will be serving up some delicious AFL-themed Meal Deals for just $6 each! Each cupcake will feature the logo of AFL teams.

2. Ginnivan’s Grub Deal: 2 sausage rolls + 1 cupcake

Party pies, sausage rolls may be purchased individually on the day for $2 each. Every dollar raised will support our Junior School P&F and contribute towards the continued redevelopment of the Junior School Hall.

So, dust off your favourite footy gear, wear your team colours with pride, enjoy a delicious meal deal and get behind your team.
