Music Notes

Each week at St Catherine’s, across the entire Junior and Senior School, nearly 900 individual lessons take place across our instrumental and Speech and Drama programs.
With only the occasional disruption due to illness, excursions, or forgotten instruments, these lessons proceed with remarkable consistency and organisation. While parents may not often have the opportunity to observe this in action, it is a privilege to have my office at the heart of this activity and to witness the progress made in every lesson, every day. I would like to congratulate all students on their dedication and hard work so far this year. Although achievement is often recognised through certificates and awards, I am continually inspired by the smaller, less visible milestones students accomplish alongside their teachers. These moments are invaluable, as they form the foundation for participation in our outstanding co-curricular ensemble program and enable students to fully experience the many opportunities it provides.

Order of Australia Inspiring Oration
On Friday 20 March, students in Viva Voci and the Senior String Quartet were invited to perform at the annual Inspiring Oration by the Victorian branch of the Order of Australia Association. Viva Voci led the singing of Advance Australia Fair and also performed the inspiring piece “I Love a Sunburnt Country” to the great delight of the audience. The students in attendance were also privileged to hear the oration of Kathryn Fagg AC, who’s career in Finance and Business, alongside her involvement in the boards of the Myer Foundation, Grattan Institute and Breast Cancer Network Australia, as well as her passion for girls education was truly inspirational for our students to hear.
Year 5 Shrewd Brass Incursion
We were lucky to have the brass group Shrewd Brass entertain our Year 5 Band Program students. The students were enthralled to see and hear brass instruments in action, possibly the highlight being a rendition of the Ed Sheeran song Perfect, performed on the tuba.
