Wellbeing Update

Our Wellbeing Team has had a busy and engaging term so far, with a strong focus on supporting students to build positive self-talk, emotional resilience, self-compassion and healthy connections with others.
Bunji Program – Challenging Negative Self-Talk
As part of the Bunji Program, students explored negative self-talk and the impact it can have on our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Students discussed how to recognise unhelpful thinking patterns and explored practical ways to challenge these thoughts and turn negative self-talk into more positive and supportive self-talk.
We also explored the side effects of negative thinking, including how it can affect confidence, mood, relationships and the way we see ourselves.
To spark conversation and encourage students to consider different perspectives, we also used a “Would You Rather?” activity. This provided a fun and accessible way for students to share ideas, listen to others and build connections around wellbeing topics.
The Flourish Journey – Labels, Judgements & Self-Compassion
We were also fortunate to have The Flourish Journey host a workshop for our Year 8 and 9 girls.
The workshop encouraged students to examine the impact of labels and judgments, both from others and from themselves. Through interactive exercises and reflection, students explored ways to reframe negative judgments, practise empathy and develop greater self-compassion.
The session highlighted how understanding and kindness can transform the way we view ourselves and others. Students were encouraged to consider the language they use when talking about themselves and others, and how small changes in perspective can make a meaningful difference to wellbeing.
Continuing the Conversation
At Lara Secondary College, we recognise that wellbeing is an ongoing journey. Creating opportunities for students to talk openly, reflect, connect with others and develop practical strategies for managing challenges is an important part of supporting our young people.
A big thank you to our students for their openness and participation, and to The Flourish Journey for helping us continue these important conversations.
