Gardening

Eve has returned as our Gardening teacher this term and has been busy potting up seedlings in preparation for the fundraiser on 30th October. She has also been getting worm wee ready and making labels for the veggie patch, so there has been plenty to keep the students busy!

Grade 4 and 5 Cooking

 Week 2

In Cooking this week, Grade 4 and 5 celebrated Indian spices and flavours and the abundant coriander, mint, salad greens, spinach, silverbeet, and spring onions we have in the garden and made Vegetable Pakoras with Green Chutney and Saag Aloo.

From the garden, we used silverbeet, perpetual spinach, walking onions,  spring onions, coriander, mint, parsley and chives.

Douglas, Cooper, Jayden, Rui, Sidney, Ulla and Harper worked with Julie to make the Saag Aloo. They chopped and cooked the potatoes and chopped the herbs, onions and silverbeet and spinach into small pieces.  While the potatoes were cooking they measured out the herbs and Indian spices.  After recess they fried the herbs and spices in butter and oil and stirred in potatoes and finished cooking them until they were tender.  They added the spinach and silverbeet and wilted it down and stirred it all together, ready to be plated up.

Frankie, Gracie, Rosa, Lacey, Perla and Thea worked with Chris to make the Pakoras. They  grated the carrots, potatoes and pumpkin and chopped the herbs and made the GF batter for the Pakoras.

Frankie and her team chopped the coriander and mint and squeezed the lemons for the Green Chutney. They measured out the oil and seasoning and whizzed them in the food processor to make the chutney.  They did a great job balancing the flavours so the chutney tasted just right.

After recess,  Rosa, Lacey and Gracie fried the Pakoras and drained them on paper towel ready to be plated up.

Julie’s group, cleaned the tables and stacked the dishes, while Rui and Douglas rinsed the dishes and stacked the dishwasher. Thea and Perla dried the dishes and put them away. Ulla and Harper picked and arranged some beautiful flowers and herbs from the garden.  Julie’s group set the table and plated up the Saag Aloo and yoghurt and the Pakoras and Green Chutney.

Everyone tried all the dishes we cooked.  Well done everyone and thanks Julie.

Grade 5 and 6 Cooking Term 4 Week 1

In Cooking, this week,  Grade 5 and 6 celebrated the eggs from the chooks and greens from the garden and cooked  two different types of savoury pancakes.

We made Okonomyaki (Japanese Pancakes) with Bulldog Sauce and Korean Pancakes with Dipping Sauce. As well they made a Salad of the Imagination, with greens and lettuce fresh from the garden.

From the garden we used eggs, garlic, chives, Tuscan Kale, spinach, celery, spring onions, greens, and lettuce.

Heidi, Ivy, Clem, Liv and Lexie worked with Emma to make the Korean Pancakes and Dipping Sauce.  They grated the carrots and potato and sliced the spring onions into batons.  They measured the flour and whisked in the water to make the batter and mixed in the vegetables.

Patrick, Alfie, Grace and Frankie and Chloe worked with Chris to make the Okonomyaki and the homemade Bulldog Sauce. Alfie and his team took turn using the mandolin to slice the cabbage finely.

Pat and his group chopped the herbs, greens and spinach into small pieces. They measured the rice flour and mixed in the vegetables.  Chloe cracked and  whisked the eggs and added them to vegetables.

Each group cleaned their area and stacked the dishes. Liv, Grace, Pat and Frankie rinsed and stacked the dishes in the dishwasher and Lexi, Clem, Heidi and Ivy dried and put away the dishes during the cooking session.

After recess Emma and her team cooked the Korean Pancakes and Chloe and Alfie cooked the Okonomyaki.  The rest of the team made the sauces to serve with them.

Heidi, Grace and Frankie and their team harvested greens and herbs and lettuce from the garden for the Salad of the Imagination and made a delicious dressing for the salad.
