Reader’s and Writer’s workshop: We have started our class text, Charlotte’s Web. We will be reading and exploring the novel together, making links to our unit on systems and discussing the different systems we notice throughout the story.
Alongside this, we have been focusing on nonfiction texts, exploring how they differ from fiction texts and developing strategies to help us extract important information from them.
Mathematics: We are starting to explore measurement and the metric system. We continue to learn about the system of measurement and have been exploring length, capacity, mass and temperature.
Unit of Inquiry: Our How the World Works unit on systems has started, and we have been exploring what is a system and the types of systems we use in everyday life. We are exploring the water cycle and weather by learning how water moves through the environment and how this affects different types of weather we experience every day.

Premier’s Reading Challenge: This year in the 3/4 cluster, students will have their own individual records to track the books they read. Students are required to read eight books from the book list and four free choice books. The full list of suitable books for your child can be found online at this link: https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/book-list/
As you read books at home, please feel free to email them to me so I can help your child to add them to their list or alternatively feel free to visit the classroom before or after school to add them to the list with your child. The recording sheets will be kept at school. We will also aim to read some books as a class to help to complete our records.
