Year 1/2 Cluster News
Upcoming Events:
Friday 22nd May: Colour Run
We are excited about our School Colour Run, taking place on the afternoon of Friday 22 May 2026. This fun community event will be held on the school oval, where students can run, walk, or skip around a circuit — it's not a race, just a great excuse to get moving and have fun!
COLOUR POWDER
There will be two lanes at each colour station — one with colour powder and one without, so your child can choose their level of involvement. Powder is aimed at torso level, though wind may occasionally cause some facial contact. You're welcome to send your child with sunglasses, goggles, or a face mask if you prefer.
WHAT TO WEAR & BRING
• A plain white t-shirt (to make the colours pop!)
• Casual clothes for the day
• A change of clothes after the event (especially for students catching the school minibus home)
• Optional: eye protection such as sunglasses or goggles
• If collecting by car, you may wish to bring a towel to cover your seats
FUNDRAISING
This event also serves as an optional fundraiser for our planned playground improvements. Donations to the Future Fund can be made via the Qkr! app, or by cash, card, or direct debit through the School Office.
VOLUNTEERS WELCOME
If you'd like to help out on the day, please let us know be emailing office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au
PERMISSION NOTE
Please email office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au if you wish for your child to run in the non-colour lane on the day. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to contact the school office.
We look forward to a colourful afternoon!
Wednesday 24th May 8.00-8.30am Community Breakfast
Tuesday 2nd June: Year 1/2 cluster Celebration of Learning (COL)
Each cluster has one COL each year. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share their learning, which will include the Australian Curriculum areas of English, HASS, Visual Art, Design and Japanese.
Families are invited to attend one session, either 5.30 – 6.15pm OR 6.00-6.45pm. Each session begins with the students performing a song, then they share their learning with families in the classrooms and make onigiri in the Japanese classroom. A flyer will be sent home this week.
Friday 12th June Alice in Wonderland excursion 10am – 1.30pm
All Year 1-4 students will travel by school bus to the Shedley Theatre to watch a youth production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. We are excited that some of our own students have been cast in this production. Permission notes will be sent home shortly.
Thank you to the P&F for generously subsidising the cost of the tickets.
We are looking for volunteers to meet us at the theatre and supervise students from 10.30am – 1pm while they eat and watch the production. Please email your child’s teacher if you would like to volunteer and have all your volunteer checks up-to-date.
Gumboots in the Nature Play area
Get ready, Peppa Pig: it’s time for some muddy fun! To use the nature play, students must wear gumboots from now and throughout winter. Children continue to wear their sneakers to school and change into boots at playtime. Gumboots can remain at school on your child’s bag hook. Please place them in a bag labelled with your child’s name.
Strawberry/Tomato containers
Please keep sending these in. Students have been looking at health messages and designing packaging labels for their onigiri, which will be shared at the Celebration of Learning. We appreciate washed containers sent in as you are finished with them. A huge thank you to those who have sent some in already!
Home Inquiry
We are encouraging the students to notice verbs in writing. Ask your child to look around the house for different items and name what people ‘do’ with them e.g. you step on a stool, you whisk some eggs.
Reading: every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.
