Vale Michael Morse

Michael was born in Burnie and attended St Virgil’s College as a boarder as did his brother Tony and younger brother Marcus.

 

Michael was a gifted footballer and he and his friend Paul Luttrell played in the State Premiership against Hutchins School to take the State Title in 1957.

 

Michael moved to Melbourne after being chosen to try his hand for the South Melbourne Football team.  His career was shortened by a tragic incident in which he lost a leg in a boating accident while on holiday on Hayman Island at the age of 20.

 

Michael worked all his life in Melbourne for the Shell company until retirement . He was a philanthropist and gifted Cabrini Hospital Malvern with a bequest to be used in restoring a wing that will be named after him .

 

He died on 17 November 2024 with a family member by his side. (Information provided by Michael’s sister, Josephine)
