Regional Finals of the 2025 AGTV German Poetry Competition

We are very proud of all of our VSC student representatives for their efforts at the Regional Finals of the 2025 AGTV German Poetry Competition, which was held in the first week of Term 3. To qualify for this event, students had to first learn a German poem and then proceed through class and school finals. At the regional finals, our students showcased their linguistic abilities against students from other schools in our local area.

Our students participated in the following categories:

Year 7 DaF:  Milla K, Justin R and Aritha W

Year 8 DaF: Henry M, Isabel W and Ethan Y Year 9 DaF: Kieran C

Year 9 Open: Tanya K

All of our students performed exceptionally well, demonstrating confidence and passion in their recitations, and represented the school with pride.

We are pleased to announce the following awards for their respective categories:

Third place medal: Isabel W (Year 8)

Second place medals: Justin R (Year 7), Ethan Y (Year 8), Kieran C (Year 9)

First place medal: Tanya K (Year 9 Open)

Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and success and thank you to the teachers, who supported the students to learn their poems and prepare for this event! Gold and silver medallists will now proceed to the State Finals, which will be held on Saturday, 23 August.

One of our student representatives summarised the day below:

On the 23rd of July 2025, we went to the Regional German Poetry Competition at Mullauna College. We arrived at the school at around midday and were greeted by some teachers before the briefing of the competition. After the briefing the competition started and the first round of students entered a room with 2 judges. Once inside, we presented our poem to be judged. In the waiting area, there were fun board games that you could play and a movie in German with English subtitles running. At around 2 o’clock, there was the results presentation, and we all got a little bag with a few lollies and toys inside because, and I quote “No one in Germany is a loser”. The whole competition and experience was very fun, awesome and really interesting. Thank you to Mullauna College for hosting the event!

German Exchange Student at VSC

Aaron R is currently attending VSC for 10 weeks as part of the SAGSE program (Scholarships for Australian-German Student Exchange). The program aims to give students an insight into a foreign culture and build friendships between the youth of Germany and Australia. Aaron arrived in mid-June and is staying with Year 12 student Harrison F.

Here is Aaron’s review so far of Australia:

My name is Aaron and I’m 16 years old. I’m currently living in Melbourne for a student exchange, but I’m originally from Germany. So far, this experience has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. I love meeting new people, learning about Australian culture, and improving my English every day.

I’m always up for a challenge and I try to be the best t whatever I do, whether it’s sports, or party games. I played soccer competitively for a long time ad I also enjoy fishing, fashion, and making people laugh. In the future, I hope to travel more, stay international, and keep growing ads a person.

We hope you enjoy your time here at VSC, Aaron! More information about the SAGSE Exchange Program can be found here https://www.sagse.org.au/
