VCE-VM Students Visit the RSPCA

Our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major (VM) Work Related Skills class had an inspiring and hands-on learning experience last week with a visit to the RSPCA Education Centre in Burwood East!

As part of a program specifically designed for VCE-VM students, our class explored the wide variety of roles within one of Victoria’s leading community organisations.

The tailored program provided insights into animal welfare, workplace roles, and the importance of ethical and community-focused decision-making.

During the three-hour session, students had the opportunity to:

• Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the barn area and adoption centre

• Learn about the responsible acquisition of pets and meet Gus, a rescued dog with a heart-warming story

• Participate in interactive activities around humane food choices and ethical consumerism

• Explore how individuals and communities can support organisations like the RSPCA through volunteering, fundraising, and advocacy

• Reflect on the diversity of work environments and how values like compassion and teamwork play out in real-world settings.

This excursion was an incredible opportunity for our VCE-VM students to connect their classroom learning with applied experiences, and to consider the many different pathways and possibilities for meaningful work and community involvement.

A big thank you to the RSPCA Victoria team for such a fantastic and engaging experience – and to our wonderful students who represented Vermont Secondary College with enthusiasm and curiosity!
