Vermont Secondary College
It is an expectation that if a student has been selected to represent the college as part of a sporting team/event and cannot attend the day, ample notice must be provided to the staff member in charge as a courtesy. This allows the staff member to have sufficient time to fill any vacant spots and ensures that the team has the best chance possible to experience success at the division, region and state levels. We understand that illness and injuries can be unpredictable and this is fine, however last-minute omissions/no shows make it very tricky for all involved.

On Thursday the 24th of July our state cross country team returned to the hallowed grounds at Yarra Glen Racecourse. A bluebird day made for great running conditions and minimal mud despite the downpour days prior. There were some fantastic performances from all students involved. Well done on a great day of tough running!

On Friday 25th July a team of Senior students played in the boys’ competition of the Senior Division Round Robin.
Our players were- Max G, Caleb N, Gajaan T, Saathi K and Archie H, all from Year 11. They were coached by Josh Chia with myself as general organization.
Our team competed well to finish a clear second place! Nobody could get close to the Glen Waverley side that included a National Level player. We did, however, manage to take a rubber off them in our 1-5 defeat in first round.
The boys gave a complete performance to defeat Highvale 6-0. A series of close fought matches against Mount Waverley demonstrated our Vermont character, sealing 2nd place 5-1.
Despite a couple of the Glen Waverley squad being admonished by their teacher for doing some Maths’ homework between matches, their A team brought their A game to achieve a clean sweep against us in the final.
Well done boys on making the final and thank you Josh!

Boys/Mixed A-Team
On Friday 25th July the Senior Boys A Basketball team competed in the Waverley Division Basketball competition.
Despite it being the team’s first outing together, they came away with three convincing wins to win the whole competition and progress to the next round. We beat Glen Waverley 53 – 40, Highvale 46 – 27 and Mount Waverley 39 – 31. The boys were able to consistently put together a strong performance against three strong teams. Each game was marked by impressive outside shooting from Jeth, Haidyn and Archie and really strong rebounding from Archie and Will. Josh, Bailey and Austin were fantastic at chasing down lose balls and playing intense defence. We move through to Region in a few weeks time.
Well done to Will, Archie, Haidyn, Austin, Jeth, Josh and Bailey! Thank you to our helpers on the day, Benny and Max.
Girls
It was a tough day for the girls with a few people unable to attend. (If you can’t make it, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can try to find a replacement.) We end up with 9 players (needing 11 to field a full team), but they were amazing. We lost our first game 0-2 to Mt. Waverley but won our second match 7-0. This enabled us to qualify for the final against Mt. Waverley, this time drawing 1-1. Unfortunately, they progressed because they beat us earlier in the day. This was a phenomenal effort given we had 2 players missing from the field and no subs to provide rest. The Mt. Waverley coach commented later that they had no idea we were playing short, and we were complimented by refs and the opposition alike for our sportsmanship.
