Mathematics Tutorials Form a Place Where Students Find Success!

Every Thursday many students from Years 5 to 12 join Mathematics teachers to revise, consolidate and extend their knowledge in a fun and positive environment.

Revision and multiple exposures to concepts are essential methods to retain knowledge. Students can work with teachers and peers who are keen to develop a stronger understanding of concepts in Mathematics.

Many students find working by themselves, with support, a fantastic opportunity to revise and review concepts. This has led to real change: from Mathematics anxiety to Mathematics confidence. Thursday afternoon tutorials are a great opportunity to take advantage of the cross-age support seen in the playground, prevalent in Wagga Wagga Christian College. This is commonplace at Mathematics Tutorials, where the more advanced students revisit earlier concepts and support others. Students also take advantage of teacher support to look back over the year’s work, to identify mathematical concepts they struggle with, and to practise those skills which will boost confidence across the entire course content. Students who master the many strands of Mathematics eventually use what they have learnt in HSC years or in a vocational situation.

Mathematics mastery is equivalent to scoring a try or getting a goal; it creates the same endorphin hit. Finding extension questions or concepts and ruminating on them in a guided study environment, allows students to see the beauty of the discipline of Mathematics.

Every Thursday afternoon from 3:10 till 4:30 all students from Years 5-12 are welcome to join Mathematics tutorials.
