Endeavour House News

Dear GSG Boarding Families

Term Two has seen Junior boarders return to life on campus with a slightly more relaxed feel, following a busy Term One of settling in and transitioning. It has been wonderful to see students reconnect and quickly re-establish their routines.

With Mrs Nyree Mackenzie completing her final teaching practicum this term, the house has been running smoothly under the excellent guidance and care of all staff, lead by:

  • Madi van der List – Pastoral Manager
  • Lachie Steytler – Lead Supervisor
  • Grace Larham – Lead Supervisor

We now invite Madi, Lachie and Grace to share their insights into life at Endeavour.

Madi

There have been a number of changes to our Junior Boarding for Term Two with Mrs Nyree Mackenzie completing her primary school practice to become a teacher. We've welcomed Miss Grace Larham to Endeavour House as a Lead Supervisor, and we've had myself shift from Secondary School into Boarding as a Pastoral Manager. We are beyond grateful to current boarding staff, especially Mr Lachie Steytler and Mr Brodie Sarre, and our wonderful Supervisors and Gappies for making this transition smooth.

A big thank you to our parents and carers of Endeavour – it has been a pleasure to get to know you and appreciate your insight to ensure we are providing the best possible care for our boarders.

We are looking forward to guiding Endeavour House in building their connections with each other through different activities we will be planning for the term, and to celebrate achievements of our boarders in school and among the community.

Lachie

The first few weeks in Endeavour House have been full of energy as everyone settles back into boarding life. It’s been great to see how quickly the students are becoming more acquainted with routines and with each other. The new LEGO, very kindly donated by Mrs Jess Bessen, has been a big hit on rainy days, giving everyone something creative and fun to enjoy indoors that isn’t a screen. When the weather clears, bike rides and time spent outside have been highlights, helping build friendships and confidence.

Overall, there’s a growing sense of comfort and belonging across the house which I am excited to see develop throughout this term.

Grace

It has been wonderful getting to know the boarders and their families over the first few weeks of term. It’s been a busy and exciting start, with winter sports and activities now well underway. In the house, boarders have enjoyed a variety of activities including baking, crafts, gaming together, Lego building, bike riding, and weekend outings to town. It has been great to see everyone settling into daily routines and forming positive friendships.

We are also encouraging boarders to maintain a positive mindset as they move through the term, supporting both their wellbeing and personal growth. I look forward to continuing to strengthen connections with both boarders and their families throughout the term.

Student Reminders

Endeavour boarders are an active and enthusiastic group, with students launching into winter sports and school commitments with energy and determination. To support a positive and successful term, we encourage all students to:

  • Plan ahead for the week to stay on top of commitments
  • Request a ‘save’ for dinner if training conflicts with the 6.00pm meal time
  • Attend GSG Academic Support in the afternoon, if evening prep will be missed
  • Submit leave requests at least 24 hours in advance, and by Thursday evening for weekend leave
  • Stay on top of washing and personal organisation
  • Ask for help if things become busy or overwhelming – staff are always available to assist with time management and organisation strategies
  • Look after your wellbeing by being kind to yourself and others, eating well, and getting enough rest.

Families are never far from our minds, please reach out if you require clarification with any matter.

Thank you kindly,

The Endeavour team
