Now that we are settling into Week 3 of Term 2, I would like to take the opportunity to warmly welcome all students, staff and families back for what is always a busy and exciting term at the University Campus.

With the change in season and the colder, darker mornings now upon us, we acknowledge that maintaining routines can become a little more challenging at this time of year. However, Term 2 is also an opportunity for our community to show resilience, stay connected and continue building positive habits around attendance, organisation and wellbeing. Term 2 also marks the beginning of cold and flu season, and we ask families to continue communicating with the school and classroom teachers if students are going to be absent. Regular attendance remains incredibly important, particularly as academic demands begin to increase throughout the term.

This is an important period for our senior students, with a number of key dates and milestones approaching, including the GAT on June 16. In addition, Week 8 (Tuesday June 9 to Friday June 12) will be the scheduled VCE Year 11 and 12 Exam Week. As coursework, SACs, work placements and study expectations continue to build, it is important that students manage their time effectively and seek support when they are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Our Advocate team, Wellbeing staff and teachers are all here to support students throughout the term, and we encourage students to reach out early if they need assistance.

Term 2 also provides many valuable opportunities for students beyond the classroom. Our Year 12 VCE students will undertake an overnight Melbourne university experience, where they will tour and gain information about a range of Melbourne universities and future pathway opportunities. Unfortunately, all places for this experience have already been filled. Please contact the Careers team if you have any questions regarding the program.

Our Year 12 VCE VM students will also participate in an important excursion to Latrobe Regional Hospital on May 12 to undertake the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program. This experience forms an important part of the VM course, with Outcome Tasks directly connected to the learning and reflections completed throughout the program.

While Term 2 is certainly a busy academic term, it is also one filled with opportunities for connection, celebration and fun. We are looking forward to several exciting student-led events organised by our SRC and school leaders, including the School Formal on May 22, IDAHOBIT Day, Winter Solstice activities and Men’s Health Day. These events play an important role in building school culture, fostering inclusion and creating positive experiences for our students beyond the classroom.

Please also take the time to read the program reports throughout this newsletter for more detailed information regarding upcoming events, important dates and opportunities across the campus.

I would like to thank our students, families and staff for the positive start to the term and wish everyone all the best for a successful and rewarding Term 2
