As Term 2 begins, students are working towards finalising and successfully meeting outcomes across their classes. During this important period, regular attendance is essential to ensure students remain up to date with coursework, assessment tasks, work completion requirements, and participation in class activities.

Attendance is also critical in VET courses as the current units will be finalised later this term.  Students should be checking with their teachers that they have completed all requirements.

We expect all students to maintain attendance of 90% or above to support their learning, progress, and successful completion of their VCE VM studies.

Students who need additional support or time to catch up on missed work are encouraged to attend lunchtime catch-up sessions organised with their teachers, or the after-school support class held each Thursday until 4pm in room 5W127. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for students to complete work, seek assistance, and stay on track with their learning.

To recognise and celebrate student effort and commitment, students who achieved attendance of 95% or above, and Learning Behaviour Update scores (LBU) scores of 3.5 or higher during the last reporting cycle, were entered into a prize draw. Successful students were awarded a Federation University café voucher.

This initiative will continue throughout the 2026 academic year as we encourage and reward positive attendance habits, strong learning behaviours, and active engagement in school. Congratulations to all students who have demonstrated dedication, consistency, and a strong commitment to their learning.

Upcoming Events

We have several events coming up across the campus.

Our VM Year 12s have an Outcome Task based on an excursion to Latrobe Regional Hospital on 12th May. They will be undertaking the Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related trauma in Youth (PARTY) program.  It is an injury prevention program aimed at supporting young people to recognise risks and make informed choices about activities and behaviours.  We will be engaging with emergency services professionals, doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners and people who have survived trauma.  Outcome Tasks for PD and WRS classes will be based on the day. Students will need to bring their own lunch and drinks.  We will travel to and from LRH by bus.  Thanks to everyone who has consented already.  The permissions are available on Compass. Please see further information in the following link.

Our Senior formal is scheduled for 22nd May and will be held at the Churchill Football & Netball Club.   Tickets are $35 and available through Compass.  We have VPC and VM students working with KYPS on a Biggest Morning Tea event.  Our SRC have events planned for IDAHOBIT Day, a men’s mental health event and a winter solstice activity.  Details below.

Past Events:

Orienteering Incursion

Year 12 Numeracy students participated in an Orienteering incursion, where they consolidated the skills, they developed throughout the Dimension and Direction area of study.  First students were given the opportunity to hone their map reading skills to navigate an orienteering course around the University Campus before being challenged at a course at Lake Hyland and ending at Pizza HQ for lunch.  The sessions were facilitated by Rob Preston, one of Australia’s top Adventure Racers who has represented Australia and had success at international races such as One Water Race in the Stockholm Sweden and the World’s Toughest Race in Fiji.  This was a great opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zone in a safe and supported environment and develop a new unique problem-solving skillset that they can use throughout life.  Jack, Regan and Jaydan collected all of the control points and were first to arrive at the finish line.  Hotly contested by Logan Rory who collected all but one control point. Individual standouts include Tyren who collected all control points and Madi who took a strategic approach, collecting the high value control points.  Overall, students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and were all successful in navigating the course and demonstrating their skills. Thank you to Jay McGown and Harry Owens for organising the event.

Holocaust Museum

Thanks to Amy Kihl-Larssen, Tim Murphy, Darren Campbell, Chris Milne and Tara Frendo for supporting our Year 11 VM students to visit the Holocaust museum.

On Tuesday the 21st of April 50 Year 11 VCE VM students went to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick. The day started early with students assembling at the Morwell train station at 6.30am. Upon arrival to the Museum students were spoken to in the auditorium about the Holocaust and the danger of hate, along with the importance of standing up to hate. Students were then broken up into small groups and taken through the museum with a volunteer who strengthened their understanding. We were then treated to a powerful speech from a Holocaust survivor. We all felt very fortunate to be able to hear about the Holocaust firsthand, from a survivor.  -Amy Kihl-Larssen
